(*) Please note this service is for college students only. Users must sign up using their college email addresses (.edu).
Hey guys, I figured I may as well share this music downloading service I came along while writing an article for my college newspaper. It is called Ruckus (Ruckus - Over 2.5 Million tracks of Free Music for college students!) and it is a site where college students can download tons (like 2.5 million+) of songs and whatnot for free. You can download entire tracks of music and listen to them (using the Ruckus Player).
The point I really want to stress is that all of these songs are LEGALLY downloaded. Ruckus pays for the songs' licenses (through the advertisements and whatnot on the site). With the RIAA taking more actions against the illegal downloading of music, universities are trying to encourage students to use Ruckus instead.
There is no spyware or anything that comes through getting the player (which is mandatory - it only works on that unless you pay) or downloading the songs. The songs also download rather quickly (especially since most universities usually have a faster connection such as T1). I believe that once a student graduates they must uninstall it (getting rid of their music), unless they wish to start paying monthly for an upgraded service.
So....free songs....legal....fast downloads....where do I sign up? To sign up, go to that site I had listed above (Ruckus - Over 2.5 Million tracks of Free Music for college students!) and click on that icon above the "Main Menu" off to the right and sign up. Please note you must use your college email (.edu) to sign up (college students are free; I think if you are a professor or whatever it may cost ya). Don't worry about getting like lots of emails from them - as long as you say you don't wanna get email you won't (I havn't). Then, download the player and get downloading legally!
And hey, you can read my short article here which includes PureVolume, Ruckus, and Yahoo Music: The Etownian.com
