I hope we get lots of medium ones, nothing too damaging, but enough for me to get some overtime working on storm restoration. (Gotta love working for a utility.)

Dude I grew up in Texas and lived in just about any state that can POSSIBLY be hit by onelaugh:...trust me dude...I KNOW when to tuck tail and run.devilish:

There are times leaving is the only sane thing to do. A warning means nothing...it is the category and strength of the storm that counts,as well as estimated arrival and landfall point.

I feel like that is directed towards Hurricane katrina, but I mean...who the hell builds a city under sea level?

That reminds me of something though.

anyhow.. i wouldnt run.. we tried to do that during rita.. haha got no where. just turned around and went back home. more people died running away from the storm than from the storm itself.

The part about the death is quite true..A home is a much better shelter than trying to escape on horrible traffic...if planning to stay prepare...if planning to leave go early.

Guess they didn't like me linking that picture?

They should build more of the hurricane resistant buildings. They are domes made from concrete, rebar and foam I believe. Not sure how pricey those are though.

well you need to look at the statistics. it just isnt economical for everyone to build storm shelters.

Yes it was aimed at katrina, and for those that are disable, it's called, call the state/nation and get a helicopter to escort you somewhere.
If there were to be a hurricane warning in Green Bay, I'd immediately pack up and go to my godfather's in Madison, join my brother in Germnay, or go to Boston with my uncle.

You may not realize this...but my husband evacuates/rescues people in a helicopter...he is not at home in an emergency...if the weather is too bad phones are out, power is out, cell phone towers are non functional.
Airports are not running, highways are congested, and any form of leaving is impractical.

Tell me...how many Hurricanes have you gone through...as well as their intensity?

You are not old enough to just leave, not only that but you fail to realize I know what I am talking about concerning this.

id like to see you try to leave when the traffic is sooo congested that you could ride a bicycle to san antonio faster than you could drive

No crap man..Not only that, but many times these storms do weird ass crap and even loop themselves.
As well educated as the weathermen are, land fall location is still iffy at best.

Radar tracking is vital, even yet...(Ghosts) of Huricanes have tracked up all the way into the mid-west ,spawning tornadoes and massive flooding.

As much as we like to THINK we know....nature will surprise you,and you can not always be as prepared as you think you are.

It's called better safe than sorry, leave before it gets there and if it loops, then oh well.

But for you, you are a special case, but I'm sure you could set something up.
