Ok... getting you all together has not worked,and so we will start with what we have as the Main Forums first.

Aside from the game sections such as Diablos etc... as well as our multitude of sub-forums ;Here is what we have to work with as far as rules.

Many have rules and the purpose of that section,posted and more specifically defined.

What we need for the posting community at large is a definition of what is considered *bad* or NOT acceptable.

Does anyone have an argument as to why we should not get the rules written up?We all KNOW NOT to rely on peoples common sense,AND that the interpretation of rules is left up to the people in charge.

Guess what sunshine???!!!??? We clowns...er...Mods...(whatever) are responsible for these decisions,and what constitutes a rule being violated,and broken.

I know we discuss*iffy* things together and normally we make the right calls. I am not sure about YOU all,but I know I am lenient on some things,because they are not worth the time to get picky about.
Other things are pretty much cut and dried as to whether or not it is wrong.

We all also realize there are those that push the limit against any set standard.Sucks to be them....

Things NOT on the table to change are scam,advertising... WITHOUT approval,(yes by God they HAVE to ask)and hacking this website.
These will remain a permanent ban until there is a nuclear war or global warming kills the lot of us.

God, what a weekend. Well, I read through everything in this thread. Was wondering, why do we even have some of these rules? I know that they've been here for longer than I have, but I fail to see their purpose.

From what I gathered, rules for Steam Room need a revision. Well, why don't we just dump the old ones and make a completely fresh list. Also, some feedback on what you guys posted earlier.

1) Why don't we just ditch the rules about spelling. We're not the grammar police. It's ok to say that a post should be eligible, however I'm sure you will not be able to find a single post on the forums that you will not be able to read if you put enough effort into it. If someone cannot spell, it will make him look bad. People will ignore his posts. No harm done. We moderate what happens on the forums, our purpose is not to babysit and educate our members.

2) All posting must be in English. (Obviously this one is up to discretion, if someone posts a line in a foreign language in their post, it's not a biggie, but it will be spam if for example, two people have a conversation in say, French and the majority won't be able to understand it).

3) This rule: - No creating threads with the sole purpose of flaming a specific user on the forums. I.e. Creating a thread named Spitfire.

Why? It's the Steam Room, people flame each other. Who cares if the purpose of the thread is to flame a shitty movie / song / actor or a God or some other forum member. Get rid of it. Let's pretend that two users have some beef between them, they can take it to the Steam Room and sort it out with some contribution from fellow members to add some sauce and drama.

4) No posting of pornographic material or offensive pictures. (Once again, up to us to decide what is offensive or pornographic. This is one aspect under which I support a more stricter approach. No goatse or shit of that kind).

5) We don't need a rule for spam. It's obvious.

Ok, so we condense those a little, add a few general points et voila, a brand new set of forum rules.

#1 All posting must be in English.
#2 No posting of pornographic or offensive material.
#3 Racist remarks are not allowed.
#4 No advertising is allowed.
#5 All material taken from other sites must be duefully credited.
#6 The application and interpretation of rules is up to the moderators.

May not seem like much, but there is a lot in there and will cover 99% of the crap that we usually warn people for. In addition, they are pretty concise, so maybe people will actually bother reading them.

Now, do we really need something extra for the Steam Room? Why don't we just add into the description that all forum rules apply? Like, let's take up the big issues.

#1 Racism. Covered in general rules, so that's a tick.
#2 Flaming because of choice of religion. Now, this is an edgy one, yet I think that it should be allowed. What difference does it make whether you are flaming someone because he's a retard or because he's a devout Christian? Unlike race, religion is a matter of choice, hence open to critcism.
#3 Sexual orientation? Pff, who gives a ****.
#4 Political views. Oh come on, fire on.

If we start warning people for everything, there's no point in having the Steam Room.
