In case you've forgotten, this week sees the commencing of World of Warcraft's Love is in the Air special event for 2008. This MMORPG's own spin on Valentine's day will be commemorated with two special events that aim to help spread (quite literally) the lovin' across Azeroth's major cities.
The first event you'll want to look out for is the Gift Exchange event that'll be taking place over at the cities of Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus, Thunder Bluff, Orgrimmar, and Undercity. Players who take part in this event will first need to buy Perfume, Cologne, and Love Tokens from their local innkeeper.
Using either the perfume or cologne will enable you to see which city NPCs are looking for love (indicated by the hearts over their heads). You can than opt to give these NPCs your Love Token as a confession of your feelings, which may reward you with a Gift of Friendship (from citizens) or a Pledge of Friendship (from guards). These items in turn contain a quest item, and some other handy toys.
Just keep in mind that you can be "rejected" by the apple of your eye (now that's realistic), which will hit you with the "Heartbroken" debuff. NPCs that you attempt to talk to will tell you to come back when you're not as sad. This can be cured if another player gives you a Friendship Bracelet.
If you managed to collect the right set of quest items from Gift/Pledge of Friendships from earlier, you can then combine them into a City Gift Collection. Collecting one City Gift Collection from three of your faction's major cities will in turn reward you with a Faction Gift Collection, which will entitle you to vote for your favorite city leader. Full mechanics regarding this event are available via Blizzard's official WoW site, via the source link.
