Altered Perceptions
#1
All night i have been fighting consiousness, wishing i could go to sleep, when this thought hits me.
Would it be possible, if you willed/wished/wanted to enough, if you had the necessary energy or time, if you were crazy enough to try, can you alter reality to certain degrees?
for instance, look at telekinesis. whereas people can bend spoons, and move objects across rooms and buildings with only their minds. also, where certain people can more or less "revisit" places of time, and tell you specific facts of the past, or even more insane, freaky, the future. and while i am at it, there are people who dream of places, or have comatosic dreams of places they have never been to before, and when they wake up they can completely describe the place to you, down to the single missing nail.
and, if it is possible to alter reality, can you also bend reality? change the rules, and go into what people think of as matrix abilities? for instance, where your adrenaline pumps when you are in a car wreck, or another form of accident, and your mind slows reality for you down to a crawl, and your reaction speed is somewhat increased. if you can alter reality, who says you cannot bend your own body, and push it into limits only those few know? and at the same time, if you can alter reality, what stops you from falling off the face of the earth?
and, if you can alter reality, if you are able to "slow down" reality, can you theoretically rewind or fastforward time? can you stop it? can you spend time in multiple dimensions at the same time?
im sorry this was a little ranty, i just get wierd and theoretical when i don't get much sleep. Gah insomniacism.

Time is just a human concept.

It is impossible to slow down or speed up time. You can make time go slower relative to you by going the speed of light...but there's no way to make you travel the speed of light (to accelerate a bowling ball to the speed of light it would take all the power produced on Earth for one week). And if you did travel the speed of light, I'd go out on a limb and say that you would probably die.

Now you can have you adrenaline increased medically--I think they do it when somebody is about to die to keep them alive.

Moving building with your mind? No way. Your mind, and when I say your I do not specifically mean your mind, isn't that powerful. Don't get me wrong, the human brain is an amazing thing. But when it comes down to it (inner chemistry geek coming on), all we really are is a pile of C, H, O, N, and various other ions. What would give you the idea in the first place that humans could do miraculous things like that with only their mind anyways?
As long as darkness flows through my veins, I will never cease, As long as my dreams still haunt me, I will never show mercy, and as long as evil lives I will never die.....

Time only "slows down" in those situations because your brain processes far more things quicker, it's like going from 10 frames per second to 30, didn't you ever watch that thing on discovery channel talking about the limits of the human body when pushed to the bodies physical limit?

I see flying and telepathy like this:

the grass is green and the sky is blue, but wouldn't it be cool if the grass was blue and the sky was green?

the answer is yeah, for about 5 min. then it'd be normal as everything else. it would only be cool if you could do it and hardly anyone else could.

i think stuff some "supernatural" stuff is real. like when you break up with your gf and you know when each other is thinking about each other and weird shit happens. or like seeing people's auras. but as far as matrix type shit, who can say? if anyone COULD do that kind of stuff it's in their best interest to keep it secret, they will be hunted down and killed violently. or at least shunned by society.

i know for a fact that dreams sometimes come true, i've had maybe 3 or 4 dreams that predicted the future in the last 15 years or so.

but just imagine how boring your life would be if you were THAT much better than everyone else. hopefully you would move on to another dimension or something. i don't like most people as it is, just imagine if i could fly or blow shit up with my mind.

alright, but who is to say there isn't someone somewhere who can take this inborn talent and send it into a hyperdrive, allowing them to use it permenantly?
And on another topic, if us humans supposedly have about 75% of untapped potential locked in our brains, who is to say we can or cannot achieve a time-related existance?

i dunno, but be careful what you learn. knowledge is a one way street. there ain't no comin back.

time travel seems kinda redundant to me, we're already doing it. if you want to manipulate something i think you should just concentrate on figuring out WHAT TEH FUCK IS GOING ON instead of trying to do it over again.

if the "potential" is there how can we know that it's untapped? maybe our minds censor our thoughts because we're not ready to accept the responsibility. the unknown is exactly that.

This kind of made me think about the movie "Lawnmower Man." I'm not exactly sure why; perhaps because I've watched it recently and it just seems to follow on how much of our minds could be locked away, waiting to be unburried.

Sometimes I wonder if there are already individuals who have the capability to stop time already out there. I know it's kind of an "out there" idea, but what if your closest friend could stop time? We wouldn't know, since they can manipulate the timeline and we can't, thus going back and changing events would have them reliving the past, while we are stuck in the present, only going in one direction. Perhaps deja vu is a rip in the hole of time? But then again, probably not.

sometimes i wonder if the world has been the same way for the past 10,000 years. how would we know if anything has changed? new roads and cities or w/e. ask your grandad, lol. that's about it.

far as we know nothin from history books is real.

You know the "We only use 10%(25%) etc etc part of our brains" is a load of shit? We use all of it.
Urban Legends Reference Pages: Ten Percent of our Brains
Read that. It also describes your arguing method. Lack of information on one side of the argument doesn't mean that the other side is instantly correct. Snopes has a quote like "Two people see lights in the sky. The UFO Believer asks "See there! Can you explain that?" The other replies "No" so the UFO Believer replies "HA! You don't know what it is, so it must be aliens!".
The only guy who actively believes that 10% shit is that retarded guy who thinks he can bend spoons like the matrix and writes books about it.

im not immediately pointing a finger towards one end, i am merely asking a question.
Quote:us humans supposedly have about 75% of untapped potential locked in our brains,
read the bold word. I wasn't saying i believed this myself, i was just asking a "what if" question. I am asking these questions for information, not to disprove or prove.

so the 10% theory is a myth eh? how come i never get memos on these things...

next thing you know they'll be trying to say that santa isn't real, or that hot dogs aren't made from the finest quality beef.

where do they get off?

NO, NO, NO, NO on so many levels! Common human characteristics--believing, vainly of course, that they are better than they truly are. Like believing that the Earth was the center of the Universe just because we inhabit the Earth. You may have a spacial thinking or speech part of your brain, but there's no blow shit up section.

Humans are mere specs on the grand scale of the Universe! You're all nothing amazing and you can't bend the entire Universe (i.e. stopping time) to your will.

Also@ the extended hyper state- your body is not meant to continuously handle that type of state. You can't have it on 24/7-you wouldn't be able to sleep! Not to mention you'd burn all of your organs out. The closest thing to what your talking about are the viking Berserkers (look them up) but they only "turned on" the for battle situations.

@our History books are wrong- You're denying scientific evidence because of superstitious nonsense. It's the Spanish Inquisition all over again!

@untapped/unused potential-If humans went through life not using their brains, wouldn't we simply evolve to not have useless brain tissue. Usually when something has no function, it ceases to exist (why everybody has always wondered why humans have an appendix).

For the sake of playing Devil's Advocate, maybe there is something to what you're saying. "The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence". Then again...no probably not. I just wanting to quote the Boondocks and sound semi-intelligent in the process.
As long as darkness flows through my veins, I will never cease, As long as my dreams still haunt me, I will never show mercy, and as long as evil lives I will never die.....

hellsing if you have something to say why don't you just come straight out with it. lol kiddin..

we dont' have blow shit up centers, but we may actual be able to change the course of the universe. quantam physics suggests that objects cease to exist in a particular event whne not being observed. meaning that all objects constantly exist in a state of potential until someone's watching.

also, due to the uncertantiy principle it is impossible to know the exact location of any sub atomic particle at any given time. we are, obviously, composed of said particles therefore it's not unreasonable to assume that we operate in this same manner even if on the basis of an extremely low ratio.

finally, it's fun to believe. and believing makes life much more interesting. personally i'd much rather watch youtube videos about consp. theories than watch some bullshit law and order or reality tv.

Well Said.
if the uncertainty principle applies to people and beings, though, than this concept not only applies to us humans, but to every being on the planet. Which would mean that for a split second, a squirrel could become a ninja.

About all I actually got out of reading this thread is...you all must be bored!!
A concept of time is exactly that...in other words, how YOU perceive something makes it real to YOU.

While it is fun to ponder these things, any argument will be biased based on your own experiences and beliefs.

The mind is facsinating and when you think about, say autism...there are a LOT of things we don't really understand about the brain.

Just no. Our minds are what separates us from monkeys; The ability to imagine such ridiculous power, and think so much about it that we believe it can be done.
