First let me say, im not here to complain about having been robbed. Thats my fault and Im here to try and learn how to not let it happen again. Having said that, heres the story...
Met some one in game, did some favors for each other, chatted blah blah. Last night they are telling me about Kuk and how his friend paid for it and 'gave it to him'. And he was making it available to me.
He sent me the info via email, links for the kuk bot and 'Warden Watcher'... Now Im GUESSING that this so called 'Warden Watcher' is not a program designed to protect you at all... but rather to steal passwords from your chosen bot.
Needless to say, I spent some time gettingmy bot set up.. had it logged on... and was working on tweeking the settings.. got tired, went to bed... logged in today and all my gear had been hijacked.
Now either the catch is you have to change your password after every run set... or I got copies of the program with 'extras' added. As I said, my guess is that "warden watcher" is actually the logger...
Can any one clear some of this up for me so I can try to actually enjoy the game instead of hating it for some of it people...?

I would assume that 'warden watcher' is a trojan. I would defiantly do a virus scan on your comp before trying to play anymore online games.

What should I be scanning said files WITH? Because what I am talking about is NOT a virus... possibly a type of spyware, but not one that AdAware or SpyBot caught. Im not a tool, I dont randomly download stuff and just start running it. The box was clean before install, the files were "clean", and the computer was clean after install. After my discovery I threw away all the files I had been given and REscanned AGAIN... still clean. I repeat this is NOT a virus issue. Its a matter of the bot send my password to some one else after I used it to log in... So again, EITHER... they ALL do this and you need to change the password all the time.. OR, the files given to me had some extra code added to send the passwords off to a specified email after being saved to the config files. Also; this is NOT an issue of having been 'caught' by battle.net... Ive had that happen and they ban your key and delete the whole account. (meanwhile i still have valid keys, acct and char... no items) This is straight up password theft.

when ever you download stuff like this its always better to get it from a trusted site (such as this one) or when ever you download something i find online file scanners are pretty good but don't take them for granted as nothing can find everything.

I deleted all the software after the incident. Now I've gone to redownload it and cant... I went to the RedVex forum redvex.d2help.com and tried to go to the Awesom-o link and got a Forbidden error ( "you do not have permission to access / on this server") . Also if I try to use the Awesom-o forum link posted in one of the threads here I get a RedVex page saying that 'this forum does not exist'. If any one else can access it... then I say... "WARNING!".

Warden Watcher is actually a real D2Loader plugin. But you probably just got a "ripped off" trojaned version. Btw, KuK-Bot has a PW stealer in it, too.

Im getting the impression that the password must be changed after every play session in order to ensure any sort of theft protection. Im ok with that; its just good to know.

yawn.
you got hijacked because you downloaded from the thief. duh
warden watcher or any other file could easily grab information from your account when you download from a untrusted source.
so you got gg'd ;[
