Quick 'Energy Shield' question

Hello,
how does Energy Shield work with the various elemental resistances/damage reductions?

Is the incoming damage filtered by such resistances _before_ being further filtered by Energy Shield, or is the opposite (first Shield, then resistances)?

My memory is not that well with ES, but if I remember correctly, Resists are applied after ES. So the ES will take pure damage, and the damage to your health will be affected by resists/damage reduction.
