Guide to getting a better Task Manager
#1
This will be a guide on how to get a new, and better task manager for Windows 2000 SP4 Rollup 1 and above (Yes this also includes Vista).

So the first thing we have to do is get a little program called Process Explorer. This program is made by Windows Sysinternals, a subsidiary of Microsoft.

After we got that, we must unzip this file, and put it some where. I prefer to make a new folder in C:\Program Files, and call it Process Explorer. Although you can do what ever you want.

Now that we got that all sorted out we are going to Open Process Explorer. Now that it's open go to Options in the Top Bar, and select Replace Task Manager. Now it is set a your default task manager. If you ever want to reverse this, go to options and select "Restore Task Manager".

So now a little about the program. One of the most notable things this does is show you everything that's running (like task manager), but it also shows you more useful info. Like who makes each program, a quick summary of each program, what .dlls something is using, etc. etc.

One last thing. There is one thing that is useful that is not enabled by default in Process Explorer is RAM usage!! The good thing is that you can enable it quickly. Go to the View in the top bar and click select columns. A new window with tabs should open up. Go to the Process Memory tab, and click the check box by "Working Set Size", I personally also check the "Peak Working Set Size" so I can tell how big programs get up to, useful for finding memory leaks.

Hope this explained everything well, let me know if there are any problems.
