About the comment, I think we have to analyze the speaker a bit more. He was born in 1931, meaning he live through pretty much all of the Great Depression. I think he remembers it being a hell of a lot worse for him and thinks that everyone today are just whiners.

My feelings are shattered by your patheticly humerous attempt at an insult. rolleyes: Feel free to take your own advice sometime btw. >.>

Not all countries have gems or precious metals to back their printed money. Some don't even have printed money. If you would have read...you would have seen, as research will show, that some consider ivory a currency...and there isn't gold, silver, platnium, or precious gems to back it up....it's valuable in it's own right.

Ivory as currency? Yeah, that's kind of it's own collateral. Ivory is very valuable...And what research? You can't just say "Research shows..." and expect us to take your word on it.

No Math ....Ivory as collateral for currrency..and Andrew is completely wrong as far as economics goes.

Paper is STILL only paper unless it has something to back its value. Those that used other than precious metals are among the poorest in the world.

That is the foundation of our currency. The hard collateral behind the paper. Economics is exceptionally complex..many things are pertinent to the dollar value.
Other countries economics plays a role.
The value of a barrel of imported oil plays a role.

But the bottom line is..the gold we have assures the rest of the world....that the paper our currency is printed on is worth something more than paper.

Yes, ivory is very valuable, I had no idea. >.>

As for research, the research is there for you to look up and go over, as I did. I'm not going to show you where it is; if you're so concerned about it try not being lazy and find it for yourself. Until then, you don't have to act like such a tosspot and assume you're right all the time, seeing as how what I've spoken on has been from personal experiance in other countries, and research.

You don't get the idea of debate do you? It's your job to convince me you're right, not just assume that I'm going to stumble across the same research as you or that I'll take your word for it.

I've taken college courses on debating and critical thinking...I'm pretty sure I overstand the concept. I'm not debating, I'm just stating what, through research, I know to be fact. Whether or not you believe me isn't my concern, and arguing otherwise doesn't make me look bad, therefore I couldn't care less whether you research it or not. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931-2005:

“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

Yes but with the current situation the rich (lobbyists, advisors, etc) have kind of manipulated the game for their gains, which in a free market society is expected. I read somewhere that in the 1950's big corporation CEO's were earning about 50 times more than their lowest paid worker and right now that figure is more closer to 250 times more. Now i'm not saying theres nothing wrong with having a business, paying cheap wages and doing everything you can to make you even more wealthier. But in my opinion today's problem is accountability.

And no you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it, but to be frank the working class has been ****ed over by greed.

p.s. Adrian Rogers was about as far right as they get i don't know how someone could take anything he says seriously. Oh wait religion.....

I just wanted to say that... We used to use the gold in Fort Knox as a backup to our dollar. We no longer "back it up". We can still say it's worth however many grains of gold, but the truth is, we don't have nearly the amount of gold that our printed money is worth. We don't even use precious metals in our coins anymore as a necessity.

I have said it before and I will say it again. I think we should just bring back the barter system. Would be awesome. "I'll bake you a cake if you give me a back massage?" lol Now THAT'S business Wink
