NetHack 3.4.3: Home Page
Does anybody here play/played Nethack? It's an awesome game, and one of the most complicated games that I've ever played. It's based on Dungeons and Dragons. It's also one of the oldest RPG's that's still in development. It's an ASCII game, so if you think that graphics make a game, don't play. Here's a screenshot.

You start off picking your class, an archaeologist, barbarian, caveman/cavewoman, healer, knight, monk, priest/priestess, rogue, ranger, samurai, tourist, valkyrie, or a wizard. You then pick your race, an elf, human, gnome, or dwarf. Then, you pick your alignment, lawful, neutral, or chaotic. Lawful is good, neutral is neither good nor bad, and chaotic is bad.
The object of the game is to get an amulet, called the Amulet of Yendor, from an evil wizard, for your god, so he or she can gain ascension over the other gods. You need to venture through the Dungeons of Doom, down into Gehennom, get the amulet, and go back up, into the clouds, and give your god the amulet.
Humans are represented by @. Armor is ], weapons are ), food is %, and theres many more symbols.
I've been playing this game for over 8 years, and I still haven't beaten it, and I still don't know everything about it. There's many features and strategies for each class. For example, Valkyries can use Mojlner(The hammer of Thor) more effectively, because they are Norse.
The game isn't very fun at first, because you need to learn so much about it to be able to play well, but once you get the hang of it, it's extremely addictive.
There's many spoilers for Nethack, but some people consider using them cheating. However, it's almost impossible to beat Nethack without reading the spoilers.
Many people start playing Nethack in something called 'Explore Mode', which let's you explore the game, and if you die, you can come back to life. Normally, if you die, you lose your save file forever, but in Explore Mode, when you die the game asks you "Die, yes or no?", and you can choose whether or not you want to die.
Once you're done exploring the game in explore mode, you should start playing without explore mode, but still make backup copies of your save file. When you die, the game destroys your save file, and you need to start all over. Making backup copies is considered cheating, but it's okay if you're new.
A helpful resource is Wikihack, the NetHack wiki . You can look up things about the game, and it will tell you all about them.
If you decide to start playing, add my MSN, [email protected], and I can help you.
