Please sign this petition, although it may do nothing please sign it. It is to call for a special session in the U.N to discuss the human rights issues in Iran. Right now, i have very close family living in Tehran. My uncle, my aunt, and two of my cousins. These people are like my own mom, dad, brother and sisters.

hard core islamic countries will never be 100% free, iraq and afganistan included. as long as islam exists, there is nothing you can do about it. and if you want them to be free, youd have to invade half of africa, all of middle east and a quarter of asia. not good.

That's very ignorant of you, Math. Very.

Signed. However, what can be done? What would the UN hope to do, short of having their Supreme Leader assassinated or going to war against yet another corrupt regime?

my cousin tells me the basij are targeting wounded people trying to enter embassies. The UN can start a provisional government i believe. The lack of popularity that the current leader has is immense. Iranians want their freedom. My mom lived in Iran before it was an islamic republic and she said it was a much better place when it was a monarchy. This petition has .05 chances of getting the UN to anything at all. But spreads the word of what the world wants. Only the idiotic fanatic men would oppose the free state of Iran.

Not To MENTION! Like i said before, this is against many human rights. the universal declaration of human rights says so. Something HAS to be done.

but we wont do anything about it. iran is a very very tough nut to crack, and no one wants a war and the only way to change the government to a democratic one is to topple the government. which is war.

itll never happen. and i would suggest that your relatives move out of iran. why are they there anyway?

the UN can't meddle in other countries affairs. in fact, the UN is one of the weakest organizations. they dont really get anything done..

sometimes im baffled by you. They are there because they are Iranian citizens. It is exteremly hard to leave the country. They moved frmo India to Iran to complete the visa process wchih takes like a year. I seriously hope they can move by septemeber which is when the process is supposed to finish.

I disagree, they often don't get anything done bceausse of the stupid Veto rule they have. But when they do get stuff done, it works. Suez crisis? Pearson...him and Trudeau were one of the few great Prime Ministers we had. The U.N holds an international peacekeeping force that would deter the basij from taking away iranians human rights. The iranians would be allowed to speak with peace at mind. If the Iranian goverment retaliates, than a revoloution or war would take place.

Oh and i am in a strong believer that democracy isin't the only civil type of government. I belive communism is great for countries with huge populations. And I believe Iran would be better as a free-religion monarchy. Like it was.

coomunism: great in war, no longterm stability in large countries, and its atheist. at leatst karl marx said.

to be perfectly honest, the Iranian government is efficient for a country who wont go to free religion. all power is concentrated to a few people.

Communism doesn't work stabily because it's an idealistic government. People don't think it's fair, especially those used to wealth and power, because they don't get more than other people. It would work if the world was perfect, but it's not.

Democracy is easily corrupted, also. Just look at Iraq under Saddam. Germany pre-WWII was Democratic. Hitler got so popular that people quit caring. Any governmental system can be twisted, if the twister is smart or popular enough.

Iran is odd. I don't get it. Khomeini is the Supreme leader and has control of the Republican Guard and the Basij. What powers does he share with the president? If he says no to something, being the supreme leader, does the President have any overriding authority?

The best bet Iran would have if a resolution was passed in the UN that a new government was to be put in place is a few surgical military strikes. I doubt Russia or Chine or NK will bother. They're kind of isolationist, militarily speaking. Well, NK is just plain Isolationist. Anyway, that leaves the US as the largest military force by far. We're spread too thin as it is, and any involvement in an Islamic republic's internal affairs would lead to ANOTHER insurgent response by Islamic terrorism groups. I would say that an all-arabic army should do it, but I doubt they have enough soldiers they're willing to spare for the job, which leaves the EU countries. They're not historically very helpful. They offer a couple thousand here and there, but nothing big. It also makes for a lack of cohesivity having so many different natioinalities on the field.

I'm not sure anything would get done in the end. Bad as the situation is, the people of Iran might have to ride it out while the rest of the world watches in shame and anger.
