Noob question about adding sockets.

I see that my pickit file is set to pick up a lot of normal superior items even if it has 0 sockets. To my knowledge, you can only add sockets to items that are not superior.... I am assuming you can add sockets to them, otherwise they are useless, I am obviously missing something. Will someone explain why these 0 socket items are useful and/if you can add sockets to them? Thanks in advance.

Use Larzuk's socket quest to give these items sockets. For example, if you pick up a 15ed/3ar Superior 0 socket Phase Blade, you can use Larzuk and he will socket the item. I am not 100% sure on the probabilities, but it is overwhelmingly likely that he will give a superior item max sockets, so for the Sup PB you would get 6 sockets and could use it to make a Last Wish runeword.

i think i know how the probabilities work- If something CAN have 6 sockets, then there is a 1/6 chance in getting max sockets. If something CAN ONLY have 4 sockets, the probability goes like 1/6-1sock, 1/6-sock, 1/6-2sock, 3/6-4sock. As per my original question though, there has to be another way, cause the bot's pickit script has me picking up all sorts of 0 sock superior gear that I have no idea what to do with. Lazruk can't be the only way, the bot picks up too many items by default for that to be the only way. Any other ideas anyone?

There are only two ways to socket items, Larzuk and the Cube recipe. Superior items can't be socketed via the cube recipe so that leaves Larzuk. Getting a socket quest takes about 15 minutes, it really doesn't seem unreasonable.

Yeah thats what those lines in the pickit are for, manually socketing through the Larzuk quest,alot of people make characters specifically to throw away after their socket quests are done or you could turn them into a mule,or you could rush your mules through to get the socket quests, lets see,I have 48 non ladder mules and 36 ladder mules how many socket quests is that?

o wow, seems like a lot of work to socket an item, I think I'd rather just wait till the bot finds it socketed. Do you still collect 0 socket items? I guess if i am specifically looking for something, I would get the 0 socketed item and rush to lazruk.

yeah thats what i do say I'm specifically looking for a 15% enhanced defense ethereal armor to make merc fort out of, I just mule the rest of the 0 socket superiors I find(which actually isn't that much when looking for perf superiors)

Larzuk, or whatever his name is, always puts max sockets unless its magic/rare/unique. Then it's only one. If one of those items has more than those sockets, it had already came with them.[COLOR="Silver"]

If you use the cube recipe, the defense will double, however, you may not get the full amount of sockets.

yeah I knew that, but the chance for an ebugged perfect superior item is worth it

thanks for the replies all, i think i understand better now why the pickit is grabbing 0 sock stuff by defualt now.
