I was wondering if you can just install mutiple copies of d2. Such as install one d2+lod then rename the folder as bot1, and then the next one bot 2 and set the path to run those specific game clients. Would this work for changing the cd key for multiple bots to be ran. Also would sandboxie not be used in doing this method?

yes that is another way you can do it as long you have the hard drive space for the extra diablo's - plus with sandboxie you will need a crack one because it only allow 1 program to run sandbox without it being registered
