These are the following most common scams that are seen today in the Diablo2 Lord Of Destruction enviroment, hope this helps save some items.

Trade Scam

Person #1: Engima for your Shako . Good?
Person #2 Thinks to himself "What a noob" but says: I'll take it
Both enter the trade screen Person #1 puts on Engima
Person #2 puts on shako
Person #2 checks the Engima and become excited
Person #1 slyly slids in a magical mage plate to the Engima's position
Trade is made
Person #2 found that he was scammed
Well, what I can say is this is the most common type of scam in Battle.net. Remember to check TWICE before you trade.

I don't know whether it exists anymore, but it involves a player sending fake packets to trick the server that an item is there, then drops and the next person will "HAVE" it.
What I can say is ask the person to move the item around

Item Scam #1: Annilhus

Well you see those people wantign to trade soemthign for annilhus? Don't do it because Annilhus has to be dropped on the floor to trade and the person will pick it

Item Scam #2: Curiosity Kills the Cat

Some people ask someone to stand on the other side of the town, and the scammer outside town, for a clan "TRUST" test or presumably a way to dupe things.
Refuse it. They will teleport into town and steal your items, even if they are not a sorceress. Many people fell for this scam in 1.09 as they did not know of a Teleporting Amulet

Item Scam #3: You drop I drop game

This is stupid. pickit steals your items

Trojan Download Scam

What you see on channels spamming best hacking/dupe progs here, download it! When you download it, a trojan keylogger or a subseven application will piggyback your system, stealing your passwords not only to D2, but to credit card bank accounts.

Download Drop hack scam

People will convince you tyhat this program must be executed in the game itself and it is an efficent cheating progs. It will force you to drop all your items.
Best way is to avoid going to any link regarding cheating programs with the exception of trustable sites like Diablorealm.
If you really encounter such a situation, pull out your modem plug or the broadband router plug as fast as possible.
Or at least hit the boot button
