Ah but you see Unber, Since marriage is a religious institution and since the three major religions are all against homosexuality, then this shouldn't even be an issue for discussion. Religion promotes the wedding of a man and woman.

Marrige isn't sacred in America, look at The Bachelor, or some of the reality T.V. shows out there.

I've read the whole thread. And so far everyone who voted no never said they hated homos. But the way I'm seeing it, and many others I'm sure of, is that you ARE against the marriage of them. Even though you supposedly "don't care".
And for your info, I've read the whole thread. =\

Everyone here who keeps yapping on about religon and gay marriage does realize that the whole battle was over whether or not a homosexual couple could go down to the court house and be wed by a justice of the peace and get their marriage license. But Bush decided he would push religous view into a topic that really should have come down to IS IT CONSTITUTIONAL and not "Does the bible say its okay?". The topic was never meant to become a religous matter it was turned into a religous matter by Bush and religous activists.

just food for thought: the words "marriage, homosexual, gays, lesbian, heteorsexual" do not appear anywhere in the constitution and its amendments...

I can see his point of view, doesn't mean I agree, but considering that it's a union through religion I still say offer some kind of alternative union. And Bush may have strong religious beliefs but atleast he fights for what he believes in, unlike others.

not saying tax evaders, just saying that married people get many rights that non married people do not. one of things is tax breaks. also, i believe the old testament was written and it mentions a couple of things against homosexuals, while i know the old testament was wrong with many things, it is the only book thats muslims christians and jews agree on. also, seperation of church and state was set up to prevent to stop the government from enforcing religous practices on its people, not from people inforcing there morals on the government, if it is the peoples will then it should be voted in.

As our "almighty" president, I think Bush should think about the beliefs of others in his country, not just his.

Edit - After reading your purify post thingy I realise what you were saying, my apologies. Heheh, just because I am taking that position doesn't mean I necessarily hold that position. What am I trying to do? Well, I think the opposition side has been weak for the most part and when you have a thread where people just agree on their positions, then that thread is doomed for failure. I'm just making you people use your brains.
In the end, I wouldn't care either way about the gay marriage situation because in no way does it effect me. However, more than half of this country still doesn't agree with gay marriage and I've said it once so I'll say it again: Majority rules in a democracy and the majority of American people who have voted still don't want gay marriage. I don't mean the majority of "all" Americans, I meant the majority of the American voting populace. Those are the only people who count since they are the ones who vote...duh...

Sorry for straying kind of off topic, but you're wrong at that one. Remember the 2000 election? Bush did no have the majority of the popular vote. Most Americans didn't vote for bush they voted for gore. So in fact majority doesn't always win in the democracy. And that wasn't the 1st time that this happened.

This is straying off topic Uber, because the Majority is against you on Gay Marriage. An overwhelming majority too. Also, directed towards Sinner: You are not seeing the point. Since marriage has ALWAYS BEEN a religious institution and since religion is AGAINST gay marriage, then even if Bush and the government are interfering, they are still doing what the MAJOR RELIGIONS would want them to do. Period.

Correction. It WAS a religious institution and then came the marriage license and now its purely a govermental institution, or more to the fact a judicial institution. Now the only "point" religon holds on marriage is over priced 2+ hour ceremonies filled with pomp and cicrumstance highlighted by the preist blessing the couple.
I think some if not most could live without the priest blessing and be happy that they are married.

Period. You know what? Guess whats against gods will? Sodomy. Not love. Gays can be christian aswell, And we dont all engage in acts of sodomy, Now, im not one of these people, BUT. Why shouldn't they be able to have a marriage if they dont engage in sodomy, And they are christian? Whats wrong with that? They aren't doing anything against gods will, Thier simply being turned down Because of Prejudice.

Well...im not christian..but if you are gay dont you go to hell when you die? or is that chatolosism?
But any way...its not about Bush you dont relize that the President doesnt have full control...its that a majority do not believe that gays should get married. and i think it is a religous issue...but i dont see why they would want to get married...its just a waste of time/money. why cant they just stay together w/ getting married?

First off please check your spelling next time.
Secondly, the major reason gays would like to marry is so that they don't have to get power of attorney when thier partner goes into the hospital and can't make a decision for them self, here's an example, your partner is in the hospital, there is a life saving operation they can undergo, but they need a go ahead from your family. Here's the thing though, your partners second cousin has more of a right to make a decision for him then you do, at least in the eye's of the law.
Third, after spending three years togeher don't they deserve the same right to some of the tax breaks married couples get?
Fourth, they are no different then a man and woman couple so therefore deserve the same rights.
My grandmother has never gotten married to the man she has been with for the past 20 years, when he went into the hospital she could not even see him, because in the eyes of the law they were not married. This would be the same for a gay couple.
