Gay rights
I personally have been having much conflict on the "whole religeon" thing. No this is my opinion but i think religeon is just a tool to control people. Maybe at one point it was just used by someone so that they had something to live for, but then was manipulated into something to control people. Look at anchient Eygpt (bad example i know) their pharhoes(bad spelling i know) were choosen by their gods to be the leader... sounds like a way to get control to me... um another example is china, manifest destiny??(idk) the said their spirits a.k.a gods make them their leader of china, another way to use religeon for control.

I know these are horrible examples but im not thinking to well right now, but if you take out the whole religeon factor then you have nothing to use as a legitamate defense against gay marriage. wars were started over religeon... so is it such a good thing anymore?............so flamed
People will start wars and die for religion and considering this maybe you can see why the resistance against gay marriages is so strong? Because of religion.
Also I believe Manifest Destiny was an American belief, back when the country was still starting out, that God wanted them to expand to the other side of the continent.
Also the Japanese had always believed their emperor to be a living God. This was not a belief they spread so they could control people it was just what they believed.
No matter what you believe you have to accept and admit that religion has played part in the how things have developed in society. And without religion the world would not be as it is today.

My uncle is gay. So i say let em marry. After all, why do we care? It's their problem.:devilish:
When asked about gay marriage, those against it almost invariably bring Christianity/the christian bible into the argument. This is wrong for many reasons.

1st. The part of the Book of Leviticus (in the christian bible) which sentences homosexuals to death also: permits polygamy, bans tattoos, prohibits eating meat that isn’t well-cooked, prohibits eating rabbits, pigs or some forms of seafood, and prohibits the wearing of clothes made of blended textiles (such as polyester). Furthermore, the bible also supports the idea of male superiority, and also the idea of slavery. This teaches us is that just because it is in the bible should not mean that we should not challenge it, and that it is just (i do not mean to offend any devout christians).

2nd. The constitution of the US is the moral code for this secular, i repeat, secular nation. This is the document that gives people the freedom of religion. How can a country promise those who live in it freedom of religion, and still impose the values of another religion upon them.

3rd. There is a separation of church and state in this nation. Meaning that even if those who rule are Christian, the actions that they make in the name of the United States of America, cannot be for religious reasons.

4th.In this period in history, it is important for us to establish to our enemies that this is a secular nation, and that we do not represent Christianity or Judaism, but rather Liberty and Justice for all. Otherwise, we will be alienating the muslims within our own nation, and we would lose hope of making peace in Israel (as we cannot be pro-Israeli, since it would take away all hope of Palestinian cooperation). Furthermore, many muslims call this a jihad, or holy war. We cannot allow this to become a holy war, and so in order to increase our soft power in muslim nations, and to have better relations with muslim nations (which is key in this da and age) we must move toward secularism, not away from it.

I can't argue against a church turning down a gay couple from getting married, as the religious body, it has the right to turn down people whom do not follow the laws of the religion (damn bacon eaters!). However gays should not be stopped from getting a secular wedding.

Finally we move on to the point about whether or not one can be born gay. When one person likes another, it is psychological. Though when it comes to physical attraction, the answer to why one is physically attracted to another lies in the science of endocrinology (study of endocrine system and hormones). So, if it is a biological impulse that causes a man to be sexually attracted to a woman (or vice-versa), is it not logical to come to the conclusion that it is a biological impulse that attracts a homosexual man to another man, (or a homosexual woman to another woman)?
Finally someone made a good argument. See THIS is what deserves rep points not winning contests.

That is a very good argument, and it represents everything that I think but wouldn't bother to type. Good job. =o
VERY good arguement neurotik. we need more people like you making points
there are just too many people who know their position and dont bother to look for facts
constitution was meant to be broken...
one man and one woman period.
the constitution was not ment to be brokeb... it has the ability to evolove itself, ii can't be broken, if it is, person is charged with federal crimes
Quote: constitution was meant to be broken...

Explain and maybe I won't mark you down as a dumbass. Did you maybe forget that it is what based are nation?

Quote:one man and one woman period.

This sentiment has already been expressed. Why not add to it or something?
probably b/c he is a dumbass and again he probably cant.... most people have been manipulated by catholic schools... my bros girlfriend recalled a few of her memories of when she went to catholic school. She said that her tearchers taught that jews, gays, jahobas witness(sp?) would all go to hell just because of their titles...that was the only reason she said they gave, they are saying this to 5,6,7 yro childeren..ofcourse they are going to believe later on, that gays are wrong because they have had that forced on them for a long time. so i feel that his statement will have no reasoning why and that he is one of those people that have been forced into beliveing someone elses belief, its a sad thing we are no better then someone in the middle east teaching his children to hate america
wow, it sucks when I present what I thought was a well-thought out argument, and some one says "one man one woman period." I mean come on, that wasn't even a coherent response. At least respond with why you think that and maybe I can bounce off of it.
i think it is just plain wrong for religious schools to teach such a system of hate to impressionable children. at least explain to them why it is wrong to be a jew, gay, etc. oh, but wait, you cant can you? all you can cite is the bible and other religious texts. it is going to take a lot more than the word of a man who lived thousands of years ago to convince me. people and societies evolve. what was wrong yesterday can be right today and what was right yesterday can be wrong today.
You know, I missed this bus totally. Judging by some of the quotes on the last page alone, some people have some SERIOUS issues with other lifestyles.

I don't see the big deal with homos. They enjoy homos as you enjoy being straight. That doesn't make THEM special for being gay, and it damn sure doesn't make anyone else sepecial for being straight. Bisexual aren't special either. We're all people, and from my spiritual standpoint, at the end of the day(and life) we're all one anyway. Karma's a generally accepted 'being'(If you even want to call it that). How would Lady K feel KNOWING you totally exclude one group of people just because of how they perfer to lay(and with who they perfer to lay with)? I mean, it would be one thing if the "gay" in question was your ex-lover and you were jealous, but they're just people.. living. I think it's safe to say that ALL of the people who absolutely "hate," homosexuals and can't stand to "be around them," purely because of their sexuality are straight, or closet gays too proud to admit it. That adds quite the bias already, doesn't it?

All I can say about some people's hate is.., well, here's the quote from Zakk Wylde's song "House of Doom."

You lie, and you lie again
You've got your plans
And you sure ain't no friend
Oh, there ain't no turning back
They say "you reap what you sow"
Hell, if that ain't a fact!

That whole verse, depending on how you look at it and apply such words, could be applied to this situation with great ease..
It's becoming increasingly obvious every time I see someone speak out against Gay Rights that this world will have a lot of catching up to do after religion is considered obsolete. =P
i already consider religion obsolete

Think about it bro, that post is irony in itself. Why should we first have to abolish someone elses beliefs to move on as a whole? Religion has nothing to do with sexual tolerance. If anything, EVERYONE should be MORE tolerant to ALL religions and sexuality, not exclude them. Religion will never be obsolete. There will always be spiritual people, just like there (always has) been other sexualities than heterosexual. If you ask me, in order for a more tolerant world to come around, we must ALL accept other people's beliefs as that persons choice and tolerate, and even welcome it. Tolerance, just like respect and love and every other thing in existance, is very much a two way street. You give a little to get a lot more.
the hard part about tolerating religion is the fact that the religion may not tolerate you
Really, I'm annoyed with Christianity because a lot of the values, save for like.. not stealing and killing (which have been rules long before the Bible was even created) are outdated. People are complaining that the Constitution is outdated, when it's only about 200 years old. Now multiply that by about 10 and you get people slaughtering goats to purge their sins. Now tell me, have you ever once looked at your friend's wife wrong and gone home to cut the head off a goat and drink it's blood? I didn't think so. The Bible definately needs to be revised or erased completely, this isn't 200 A.D. anymore and that's a hard point to contest. People that are raised Christian don't like to think outside the box because they're practically brainwashed from an early age into thinking that there's a God and he loves you and if you don't believe that, you're going to burn in hell for all eternity. It applies to Gay Rights in that being gay is something that is becoming ever-popular by non-political social standards but devout Christian-ites and other brainwashed folks are against them and don't even know why, other than this 2,000 year old book telling them that two men in love is SATAN.
