Bush violates constitution
#41
I can complain about how the cival war was a political scandal if you want, but I'll try to remain objective. You aren't upset about this. If they suspect that you are a terrorist, they can take you and hold you for years, maybe until you die. How do you feel about that? Really, it upsets me, I value my Constitutional rights.

It's not whether you think there is anything suspicious about you, it's if they think there is anything suspicious about you. You could be innocent, and someone makes a call saying they overheard you talking about planning a bomb threat or something and the FBI comes and snatches you up and you dissapear. How would you feel then?

The problem with this is it's gonna open up holes to further exploit the constitution and furthermore ruin the whole reason why America is loved by Americans. We won't be the Land of the Free much longer.. hell, if you wanted to volunteer for Katrina relief, you had to go through desensitivity training that teaches you how to deal with people of different races.

In a nation where Freedom of Speach is held so high how can this be justified? Just like the Patriot act did, i'm sure this is going to open more and more doors. In a few years it won't matter if you have nothing "suspicious about me," because in all likelyhood laws will be passed allowing the in depth surveillance of all peoples, terrorist ties or not.

And I for one would rather not end up in some small, cold cell underground because someone said they "thought" they saw someone who looks like me carrying a bomb and wearing a shirt that said "Death to the Infidel Dogs!!" on it.

i didnt really bother to read the article or the bill, but i am sure there is some sort of thing in there where they have to have at least some proof or evidence of a person being involved with terrorists before this could happen...and if there is not, it wont make it to law. whew, good thing we have a system of checks and balances...otherwise something terrible could happen...like terrorists being tortured.

Alright, i read the first few posts, but i didnt read all else.
So you'd rather have potential terrorists (i mean potential as they could have done) that coulda killed a bunch a people get away freely then stopping them and saving a million people lives? Besides the CIA or whatver wouldnt do anything without reason

I keep forgetting how many naive people there on this forum… Suspension of basic rights is wrong, even for a “good” reason. We do have checks and balances, but if this law has passed it has already cleared the legislative branch and the executive branch. Considering recent decision by the courts I don’t hold out much hope for the judical. Let’s just hope they do the right thing and strike this one down.

That's the thing though, if two branches sign off on a bill, the third branch isn't necessarily veto the bill without looking at why the other two branches agreed. Even then it is most likely that the bill will be passed and turned into a law.

THIS is all i was pointing out right here. BUSH doesnt pass anything without the congress and the house approving so with that being said....BUSH didnt violate the constitution. thats all i wanted to get across. everything isnt bush's fault, though he is retarded most of the time.

retarded, neveer, you never hear the full story though. Everything goes by what multiple people, the majority, want. So if the majority of people think this is right, then it will happen

I happen to like Bush and I voted for him. What strikes me about this thread is the basic ignorance of how the government actually works. People forgeting to take into account that many of a leaders problems are inherited from other people and it takes TIME to affect change. Also not realizing that the president alone does not write these bills. There are checks an balances. This is why it is called a Democracy...not a Dictatorship folks. Many opinions about Bush are generated by people that are hopelessly ignorant of the true political arena. You have very limited knowledge of the goings on in the world,as in behind the sceens .I can tell you from having been in Millitary Intelligence...you have no clue either. It is called National Security for a reason.Get over it,and believe what ever fodder the media feeds you if you are that gullable...otherwise threads like this only piss me off and show how much you do NOT know. Go learn at the very least how the branches of the government work ...before you start spouting missguided political statements.
Always remember...it is always better to be thought a fool...than to open your mouth and prove it.
This is a 1 time post...and a truly retarded thread.

ok, xd, you are definitly the d2sector resident conspiracy theorist. And... that's cool and I understand your concerns. bush sucks. yes, we have established that 1000 times before. But you underestimate the american people. I'm totally NOT flaming you in any way here. don't take this as an insult.

America will ALWAYS be free. Yes, our president is going to extreme to stop terrorists. but, the good thing is he has been successful in preventing more attacks on american soil. I don't know about you but i haven't had any federal agents beating down my door because i made a call overseas. (i have a good friend that's lives in South Africa that i call once a month. And South Africa is a haven for muslim extremists.) So the question is; Is it worth it? of course it is.

In fact, i think that bush was good for us. In a funny way bush got more people to care about whats going on in our government. i live in a town of about 60,000 people. before bush only about 4,000 people would make it to the poles every 4 years!! ONLY 4,000!! (avg) I don't remember the number last election but i think it was about 3 times that. And from what i understand, last election had a record turn out across the country. America is as strong as it's ever been.
