*sigh* as I said, that one version of Norton that came on that one singular disc could have been defective..it happens. Norton itself is still a great program as far as antivirus software goes, and the tools that come with sys works 03 are great for keeping your PC clean. W/e problems those ppl had were singular problems which I am 99.9% sure were isolated incidents. So what if a "few" techies say it was bad...I'm not trying to convince you your opinion is wrong ton, I am telling the many other readers of this thread that while you say few ppl have had problems with it that you personally saw, Norton itself is still a good program and worth buying. I'm not arguing. I'm informing the general public here that while your opinion on norton may have been swayed by some "unknown" techies, 99% of what I hear from any/al; techies is that Norton is good. Thus, it must be worth the money. You may not buy it. W/E..but the general public has a right to know how Norton really is..not just your confied view of how it went wrong ONE or TWO times. So there, you may unsubscribe now, go away, peacefully.

Hijack This usually takes care of that but if that doesn't work try using this program called Bart PE it's Windows Xp but bootable from a CD so that way no programs are running except what's on the CD so you can just go on a search and destroy mission lol.

Well then it's hidden itself in something that will keep bringing it back like the CTFmon. so try booting XP from a disk if you have something you can do that with and then using reg edit to find anything out of the ordinary.

go to run and type "rededit" without the quotes of course... and then depending on how it got there it should be in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" then find it..might take a while..but it's most likely there

Would running a search of all files work?

Yes it probably would. But running regedit would be the more effective way.

You could try using CW_Shredder... I've never used it myself though. Or Hijackthis?

best way to protect urself is only go to trusted sites, dont use search engines- (they show good sites but also many bad ones), and dont use kazza or that bitorrent thing.

doing that would allow you about 1% of the internet.
If your gonna search make it direct as possible... dont be like just search... Full Version Games... that would lead you to definatly bad virus filled sites waiting to latch onto your beautifully new pc... (or MAC)
If your gonna use kazaa or any p2p file sharing, look for files that are highly user rated which means are downloaded the most and dont dl things with obsure file size... like if you wanna download a movie and the things like 12kb obviously thats not the movie.....
regedit by hand is effective but very tedious and slow, try to find a program that searchs registry that knows what is bad and whats good. Like Lavasoft Adware is a good choice for people who dont know all the comp savvy stuff.
