Well, Its actually quite simple 
I got lucky and stumbled across high defence and decent chance to block "Akaran Targe" that was socketed. Most Paladin Only shields have either, enhance dmg, +attack rating, or + Resist all. Mine came with 21 resist all, and had 3 sockets. I put 3 perfect diamonds in there and got a +80 resist all shield You can also do the same with a 4 socket shield if you come across one. Mines lucky cuz it had good stats
Mine is:
Defence 175
Chance to block 56% (thats without holy shield on)
24 Resist all (without the gems)
3 sockets
Put 3 perf diamonds in there, and you got a pretty good resistance shield
