Wii have a chance of stealing the market?
#61
I like to revive this topic because of the huge debate of the next gen of video games. It has been 1 year since the Wii and PS3 was released, 2 years for the 360, 3 years for the DS, and 2.5 years for the PSP

From the Polls, 9 Said yes and 21 said no, so who is right and wrong here? But majority of forum posters said Wii had a chance. so who wins.

The answer, whoever said Yes wins. And whoever said Yes in the forums wins 2.

Even b4 a whole year the Wii was released, it hass surpassed 360 sales in September and the PS3 is plagued with high costs + difficulty in releasing some big games for this holiday season. The 360 and Wii include plenty of games for this holiday season. The PS3 is still in it, but the PS3 still doesnt have those must have games to buy (MGS4, Killzone 2, GT5, FF13, Haze, LittleBigPlanet, Home).

These are the current numbers after 1 year. As you can see, the Wii is winning even after a year head start for the 360. The PS3 is currently in 3rd place and the 360 sits in 2nd. The Wii has proven it had a chance to steal the market by getting new gamers back and old gamers from previous generations. Games such as Super Mario Galaxy, MP3: C has jumped sales of Wii as it continues not to meet demand. It has proven its new kind of gameplay to be fun and for every1 of any age.

The Xbox 360 has seen some big games (Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect) Now that the 360 has reached its high potential, it has plenty of games out for this holiday season. The 360 is still racing the 3 RRoD but it is now being fix slowly. The 360 dominates in America but struggles in Japan still.

The PS3 introduced 2 units and 2 price cuts, a new controller, and bundles. The PS3 is at pace of 360 but struggles in selling games. Only 2 PS3 games so far has sold over 500,000, Resistance and Motorstorm and those were launch games. PS3 currently sits at $400 and $500 down from $600. It continues to struggle in hardware and software games are constantly being delayed, in hopes of PS3 securing its exclusives, it just has to wait longer and longer.

Overall, from these predictions a year ago, the Wii is definitely the Winner this year in terms of sales. The Wii has a 42% markers share, 360 has 40%, adn the PS3, only 18%. At the current pace, the Wii should outsell the Gamecube and eventually the N64. The Xbox should get sales close to the N64 - SNES. But the PS3, the claimed 10 year console is currently as a slow pace and it certainly has a small chance to milestones of the PS1 and PS2.

theories:

$600 for a console is a bad idea. Needs to get big games in.
The Wiis new strategy worked
Big games for the 360 are fun to paly online and with friends.

Well. I have an Hd Tv. I somtimes change from the local Hd football games to the exact channel but non-hd football games and the difference is day and night. When I have the comparison I can seriously not watch anything thats not Hd because it feels so blurry. However not everybody are embracing this new technology. For Hd tv alone, you need a compatible Hd Tv, Hd Tuner, Hd Dish, and preferably an Hdmi cable, which I found considerably better quality.

Edit: Lol. So Wii would benefit from Hd, but only if everybody are Hd ready.
