well im still just saving up skills for later and when i get to lvl 30 or 40 ill need some equipment if u can help me out. I wonder if my resistances will matter much.

i'd recommend a curse and CE necro with some skeletons.

you'll be pretty useless in a party for normal and nightmare, but hell is where you'll shine. after act2 hell, all monsters have at least 3k life, which means each CE will do 2k to 3k damage to every monster within a radius of 8 units (lvl 20). in act5 hell, each CE will do at least 5k damage :eek:

the only other character that will be capable of doing as much damage as you is a hammerdin. and even then, he needs to wait for his hammers to spiral outwards where as CE does all the damage instantaneously.

the best part is, the amount of damage CE scales up as enemies get tougher, so you never need to worry about the damage maxing out. unlike other skills that can't get any better once you max out the skill points and synergies.

CE only works if there is corpses. without them you're screwed. and any char with a decent freeze target or target rests in peace will mess up your chances of retaliation. Any paladin can waste a skill char if they use FOH properly

direct pvm is hard if they're not in range. CE has a specific radius to work from. if they're not in range it wont be effective. best chance to work against pvm is cows or anything that has a corpse group with enemies near by. direct missile creatures will have a strong chance of no effect against it.

a level 25 CE covers over half the screen at 800x600. that's plenty of range even for questing.

if they're flying it reduces range by 40%. each resistance counts as a double range. PE does triple the damage plus poison.

yea, PE can get up to 18k dmg at lvl 30 with synergies, but that's over a period of 13.6 seconds. which means you're only doing 1.3k dmg per second.

whereas CE is instantaneous. a CE on any monster in hell will do damage faster than PE.


not to mention, you need to invest 60 skill points into pdagger, pnova, and PE to get that kind of damage.

CE won't take more than 20 points. not to mention, 10 points in CE is already more than enough, cuz monsters in hell always come in packs, so you can chain the CEs for more range.

this leaves you with 40 more points to invest into other skills.


PE is pure poison damage, so you do a lot less dmg against poison immunes in hell even with lower resist. CE is both fire and physical, so your killing speed is only hindered if you go up against fire and phys immunes, which is definitely a lot less often than you'll face poison immunes.

PE isnt pure poison. its a mix of pure physical and direct damage. It casts CE before the poison. So the damage is instantaneous plus a duration of poison that will be added after the first mass of damage. PE counts as a 3-stage attack. A direct damage and a given damage with duration plus a fire damage.. If set properly, you can do a 3x damage instantaneous with a background damage (poison) to add a heavier duration. If you use a damage calculator you'll notice a level 5 PE does equal physical damage as CE not counting the poison it will do. If you add the poison to it, it will be increased. most people only read the damage as a duration and forget there's a direct attack as well. so they have to think about it. you have to calculate how much damage is in each. Someone figured a calculation of about 1/20 is poison and the rest physical.

I was playing as a vampire with the full trang-oul set... I'd have to say it kinda sucked, though it does look cool! I guess the good thing was that you could use some sorc spells as a necro, but who really needs that?Rolleyes

the ghoul look is just for looks. it isnt really isnt for strong gameplay unless you know what you're doing. I use mostly trang oul with some unique items.

Yeah, because some of trangouls are really nice to use with others. I personally like the armor for a speedy necro :p

hence the trangs armor 40% with the boots 40%, so ur gonna be a fast necro, and poison can be better if done right, just run out, kill some monsters, wait for the other person to run by, and explode! theres your 16000+ legit poison damage!
