Starting Ladder

Hi everyone i have never played lod ladder b4 and i'm thinking about starting playing ladder instead of Nl cause NL just got boring dupes everyone and all that crap, so if anyone could help with 1 rush for my first char and some low lvl items or any items to start off i would be grateful. thanx
