Beginning Hammerdin

My friend wants to start a hammerdin, and he's kinda new and doesn't have too much gear ( I don't got much on ladder either so I can't supply >.>) I just wanna know if thats a good choice? What is the max damage you can do without + to skills for a hammerdin?

This will be a easy good starter gear to get for poor people for a hammerdin:

You say your in ladder, so that means i can make runewords

Wizzard spike
Shield:
Spirit in a paladin only shield (runeword)
Armour:
Najs armour
Gloves:
Frostburn
Belt:
Glooms trap
Boots:
Silkwave

without lots of +skills its not gonna be very good but still somewhat decent
