hmm they arent hardcore punk but try sum41. their new album chuck had some good stuff and some bad stuff. i suggest "does this look infected" from them. antiflag is another good band but they are liberals =/. dont get any emo shit. you can tell bye the name of the band like "yellowcard" or "the used" they all have faggy names and you can tell.
so i suggest:
for "punk"
sum41
antiflag
for softer stuff
the beatles (anything from 1965+)
pink floyd (anything!)
for harder stuff
slipknot
mudvayne

Well Hurly, punk sucks. If you're looking for a CD, I suggest anything in the Hard Rock category to Heavy Metal.
Considering you're a 'rapper', I'll hit you down with it light.
AC/DC - Back in Black. It's classic, definetly an album that converted people to good music.
Metallica - Ride the Lightning. Another great album. All kinds of varying styles, there's something for everyone.
Pantera - A Vulgar Display of Power. A little more hardcore than the others, but it is an album LOADED with hits like "Walk" and "F*cking Hostile"
Pantera - Cowboys from Hell. A personal favorite. This is the album that made Pantera become the biggest metal band of the 90's.
Van Halen - 1984. Nice Music.
.. If you're feeling daring, and if you want to start off with some really hardcore metal, try : The Haunted - rEVOLVEr . Great band, I saw them live a month ago and I loved it.
I hope this list helps, man. Always cool to have another man in the ranks of the Metal Militia!

Or you could jump straight right in upto Burzum, coz thats how i did it. Caevat Emptor! and i dont think punk sucks, i like certain punk bands because they simply have some catchy tunes.

Metallica - Master of Puppets Awsome CD, went double platinum, they did somthing right
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Greatest Hits Get a taste of RHCP then go buy albums like Californication
Pink Floyd - The Wall or The Dark Side of the Moon A bit wierd at first, you'll get used to it.
and if you want some black metal Cradle of Filth - From The Cradle To Enslave or Nyphetamine

Cradle aren't black metal anymore, theyve changed to symphonic metal. The realy old stuff was black, but this stuff they come out with now is nowhere near real black metal.

Don't get any Cradle of filth mudvayne, korn similair music, i find that a reeal big turn off to people trying to get away from the lesser genres of music. I suggest you start with classic rock. Nothing wrong with that. Then slowly hit the metal up.

99 Red Balloons is by Nena Hagen, not Goldfinger. They simply covered it.
And B!itch, I see where you're coming from on the punk thing. I used to listen to some old punk bands like Rancid and Pennywise and got bored. I moved into bands like Metallica and Pantera, and I love them. I went to see Damageplan and got a taste of more hardcore metal like Shadows Fall and The Haunted, whom are both really good bands.
And yeah, B!tch. You COULD just jump into some black or death metal bands like Death, Emperor, Behemoth or pretty much anything underground, but this kid is a former rapper... and he's asking about punk music. lol.
Hurly, I vote you start listening to both Metallica AND Pantera.
The heaviest bands I like (by heavy I mean screamy stuff) are Kalmah and Carcass. They both have some really nice guitar work and cool vocals.

Linkin Park is Nu-Metal. Shitty is the only word to describe it.

Try the Butthole Surfers, and They Might be Giants. Also, The Clash. The Clash isn't very "punky" by todays standards, but in the 70's they were pretty punky.

Metallica is not punk how dare you say it is! Sorry I know you're new to the "good" music scene but Metallica is metal. One of the most talented bands considering they came up from nothing.
Once you get a taste for metal and rock go try Mushroomhead for something harder and some Tool for something a little darker and deeper.
