Are public school teachers over paid?
#1
Are school teachers over paid, seeing as they only work half the year?
#2
no! my mom's a public school teacher, and as you should know, they DONT only work half the year. she's not making nearly enough, and all through the summer she's preparing all of her work for the following year. there's a massive amount of work to be done; organization, cleaning of the room and file cabinets and everything, researching new projects to give to the kids, doing the projects themselves to see that they're feasible, the list goes on and on. they aren't paid nearly enough, and they're only doing it because they love teaching.

this coming from a teacher's son...

hell yea and my ****in math teacher been gone for like 10 days my ss has missed like 30-40 cause of cancer but still they do shit
#4
no...no they are not paid to much. I think they are being paid too little for the simple reason that they have to deal with bratty kids...Also they may only work 3/4s of the year but its not just a 8 - 3 job when you figure in grading homework and such. Its hard work teaching a class and i think that teachers are being underappreciated for the work they do.

i think that if you were to examine the life of a teacher outside of school, it's often geared towards school (i.e. finding materials and new teaching things, reading teaching magazines, grading, etc.) and it's sad how little they're paid...
#7
yeah they are very underpaid.... and they have such difficult jobs dealing with students.
#8
Dealing with kids in this day and age, yes, they are. Kids today are either dipshits, do gay stuff, are too mean to each other, or just plain be a ***** to teachers. I for one try to avoid all of the said reasons why so as not to **** teachers off. I guess that's why I don't get in trouble... =\ They deserve more. =\

Teacher's are dangerously underpayed in my oppinion.

How about this for a payment method, they get paid by how well the students do on standardized tests.

American teachers are the highest paid in the world, and we have among the lowest test scores. If I'm paying someone to do a job, I like to think I'm getting what I pay for. Granted, a teacher can only do so much, mostly it's up to the student and his or her parents. But with all the books, computers, highly paid teachers, shouldn't we be ranked a little higher?
#11
I personaly think teachers should be paid more than doctors and stuff cause it takes a teacher to teach them how to do all this...
#12
i think their pay is very messed up

my gym teacher makes the same ammount as my science teacher. gym teachers dont do anything!. my "computer" teacher makes the same as my gym teacher. she makes us do a typing program all class. i have beaten the program 2 times already.

i think the pays should be more fixed so the more effort=more pay

We've tried that. Do you know the problem with that is? Not all students who do badly on standarised test are less capable then other students. Personally I test horribly. I clam up shake and all sorts of things, I pretty much come close to a panic attack. Furthermore its not always the teachers fault if the students do badly. In fact in most cases its the students fault all together if not 90% their fault.

When you get right down to it its the will of the student to succed and do well that determines his or her learning experience.

in agreeing with sinner, i can't say that i try as hard as i can in school. no teacher, no matter how incredible, can motivate me to try my hardest and achieve my "full potential". is that due to the teacher? no. so why should he/she be punished for my own laziness? i agree that teachers are worth more than most jobs out there. who taught everyone in the world, mostly, how to DO their jobs? teachers. case in point!

Teachers dont get paid good at all, they always need a job in the summer.

There is an option to have part of your pay with held during the school year so you get paid over the summer or you can get payed only during the school year. Its up to the teachers.

Here's another thing, if the teacher can't motivate you to do your best, they are just information presenters. Can't a computer do the same thing, present information? Look at Abe Lincoln, he schooled himself and became President. That either shows it doesn't take too much to be president, or that teachers are HIGHLY over-rated. The politically correct thing is to say "oh, the world would fall apart without teachers, they need more money". But face it, most home school students do better than those taught by "teachers". If an untrained parent can do as good or better, I think we need to rethink how much teachers should be paid.

look at bush...it definitely doesn't take much to be president.

And the home schooled thing, not true. All my cousins were homeschooled and are dumb as rocks. I'm not even sure they know who the 1st president of the US was. The only advantage of homeschooling is that the student can go at his/her own pace which allows you to teach more information.

I still believe teachers are not paid enough for the job they do.
