Huh...always thought games had a purpose beyond teaching kids how to kill stuff.

Games would be held higher if they were put together right.
The problem is, most of the fun games are things that require lots of strategy while quick thinking, such as Warcraft. Then you have the puzzle games like Myst which require in-depth thinking and a different level of strategy. Mix these together and what do you get? A kick *** Legend of Zelda game ![]()

It really had not dawned on me that my intelligence came from video games. I've been playing games FOREVER.. Started out with Doom 2.. and now that I look at it, such games have given me more attention to detail, memory, and so on... My brother hardly ever played video games, and I was talking to him just recently and somehow it came to the subject of me remembering numbers or combinations. He obviously didn't think the same way that I did. I want to know if any of you ever do this, but... say it's my locker combination, 44-32-16. 44-12=32/2=16.
It's just a deeper level of thinking, I believe..

Sorry, but I have no clue what you just said, lol. Are you trying to say that you remember your combinations by putting them into mathematical equations?

I would love to stay home all day and play video games, I mean learn... yes learn.... But I have a life to live. After the education that school gives I go do things, but when playing video games you can get addicted and never go outside again...

Now looking back on it, I learned alot from video games. I have learned stratagies, micromanaging, how to use suprise an enemy, and even morals. Half-Life 2 alone was a mind boggle for me, every level introducing somthing new to learn. Counter - Strike taught me team skills and sharpened my reflexes. Morrorwind and Fable showed me morals.

Playing most RPG's of any style will require you to do some deeper thinking at one time or another. It allows you to assess the situation in a world with strict rule sets (such as a mathematical problem) so you should be able to do it in school as well. Too bad it doesnt work in the English or History Dept.
My math teacher playes computer games :O

wow...that really opened my eyes..lol, like everyone else said pretty much.
damn, im puttin that link in my sig:devilish: RtD-Rookie Wrote:It. . . He obviously didn't think the same way that I did. I want to know if any of you ever do this, but... say it's my locker combination, 44-32-16. 44-12=32/2=16. why make it complicated? no offense, but wouldnt it be easier to just remember 44-32-16? lol.

i agree that video games can help you learn. I've learned a lot of history from playing historical type games, age of empires for instance.

i learned alot about demons and the day it rains fire from warcraft.....but on a more seriouse not this is no news to most of us. all games require stratagy and playing them builds on it...except maybe nutball

Quote:dude i believe that so much....i am the only one in my familie that plays games and i am the only one that makes good grades..go figureim almost the exact opposite my brother and i both play video games(oldest brother quit when he started college), but we all started since the NES days..... also, whenever i get home from school, i play video/computer games for the rest of the day, and i'm pretty sure the only one getting bad grades ![]() i learned a lot from video games.... vocab, history, life..... for example, socom2, a great video game, gave me leadership skills that i never knew i had....wow.....

Holy crap Rookie. I do something just like that honestly. For some organization im in my number is 368 right. So I always remember it 3 x 2 = 6 + 2 =8!

i cant say that ive been a video game freak for my whole life, since my parents never bought me a single game/game system. i know, i'm deprived.
But due to my own intelligence and work ethic, I have ameliorated the situation from pure avarice. ---I got a job and bought d2 myself. i learned a couple words from d2..amelioration, which i believe is -75% psn length, and avarice, which is some high % of gold from monster. i have an immense vocabulary (just ask UGM, i'm "precocious" lol...) but i think i got most of my learning from my own, not necessarily from games or school. though finally someone picked up on the video game empire .. and someone realized that these ****ING schools are just shoving information down our throats without caring or telling us why. memorize memorize memorize. |
