I don't really know where would be a good place to start, so let’s start at what you’re trying to install, plugins.
A plugin is an imported script that a program such as D2loader or D2hackit will implicate upon the game. Every plugin has its own use, and there are many plugins, only about 1/16th of them are useful though. Plugins made specifically for D2hackit have the extension of .d2h. However I have found if you do not have, or do not want to use D2Hackit you can change the file extension to .DLL and it will run in the D2Loader plugin folder.
D2Hackit >http://www.d2sector.net/downloads/pafile...ile&id=149 <
Now how to install it: When you download the .zip file or .rar, you will need programs to extract the plugin. They can both be found at download.com. After they are unzipped you should have a folder that says D2Hackit110, or something relative to it. (If it does not say 110 at the end then it probably won't work with the Diablo II 1.10 patch.) If you go in the folder, you should see another annoying folder with the same name, double click that one too. You should be looking at four files, d2hackit.d2h, D2HackIt.ini Loader.exe, and d2sector.txt, depending on if you downloaded it here. What you need to do is copy loader, d2hackit.ini and d2hackit.d2h. Go to your Diablo II directory (Usually C:\Program Files\Diablo II), and paste everything in there, although d2hackit.d2h, or d2hackit.ini is not needed there, it’s just easier. Create a folder called "Plugin", or "Plugins". Once again paste everything you have copied into that folder. You can delete Loader.exe.
How to use it: Now that you have it installed lets use it. This is fairly simple for this program, all you have to do is make sure you have the most up-to-date patch and launch Diablo, minimize it with the windows key, or switch windows by hitting alt+tab and continually hitting tab until you get to the desired window. Go to your Diablo II directory and left click on loader.exe, copy it. Then go to your desktop and left click again, but click Paste Shortcut. Now you can double click that shortcut whenever you want to load D2hackit.
** To make this easier you can left click on your Diablo II shortcut and go into properties, and change your target to this "C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w". It will run in a window, it should start at 800x600 screen resolutions, but if it doesn't you can change it in Video Properties while in a game. (Some start at 640x400 or something close to that) **

D2Loader and its special features: D2loader is much like D2hackit, except more comprehensive, and many more features. For instance, D2loader can load your Diablo without your CD's, has a more 'helpful' help menu. Is capable of running more than one copy of Diablo II at one time. It has its own commands and searches for help on the plugins as well. A lot of programs are not designed for D2Loader. Though it is much better in my opinion, it has a downside. Every program you come across is for D2hackit, and I was unable to get d2h files to work for D2Loader. But you can change the .d2h to .DLL and they will function correctly.
D2Loader and how to install it: Once you download the program you will need to unzip it, they will be in either a .zip or .rar file format. I believe that Winrar can open them both but you can get Winrar and Winzip both at www.download.com for free (trial versions). Now that you have it unzipped you should see a folder called d2loader-110 or somewhere along those lines, though it will need to have 110 or it might not function with the Diablo II 1.10 patch. Enter that folder by double clicking it, inside you should see a folder called d2loader, enter it. In it you should see seven files, Plugin (folder), d2hackit.script, changelog.txt, Diablo II.exe, example.dos, readme.txt, and faq.txt. Copy Diablo II.exe, Plugin, d2hack.script, and example.dos (last one is optional). Be sure to backup your original Diablo II.exe located in your Diablo II directory. Paste them all into your Diablo II directory. Next, insert your Diablo II expansion CD into your CD drive. Go to it (usually drive E: or D:. You should see the files, DIRECTX7, SUPPORT, EXTRAS, AUTORUN.INI, BINKW32.DLL, D2COM_01, D2EXP.MPQ, D2X.ICO, D2XMUSIC.MPQ, D2XTALK.MPQ, D2XVIDEO.MPQ, INSTALL.EXE, SETUP.EXE, SETUP.MPQ, and XREADME.HTM. You will need to copy the files d2char.mpq d2music.mpq, d2xmusic.mpq d2xvideo.mpq to your Diablo II directory. If you copied Diablo II from the D2loader folder then everything should work.
**Important, Do not copy all of the files from your CD or you may have to re-install Diablo, and delete everything from your Diablo II directory. Also the latest patch for Diablo II will be required. **

There are many more but those are the ones that are most commonly used. Also, every time that a new patch comes out, it is usually required to make a new plugin in order for it to work. So a lot of the scripts do not function anymore.
