Tweaking: How To's and Resources
#1
Have you ever wanted a better experience with Windows XP? These resources should be helpful to you and I highly encourage their use.

Note: Some of these guides are complicated for inexperienced users and can often involve things like registry editting, If you are NOT familiar with registry editting I would not recommend attempting these on your own. But if you feel comfortable working within the registry and other sensitive places in your OS, I recommend proceeding.

The XPTC "The Windows XP Tweaking Companion" by Koroush Ghazi.
The XPTC comes in .PDF format and is one of the most detailed tweaking guides you can download from the internet, It leads you through installation, has information on drivers and software and has recommendations for every significant setting within Windows XP. There are sections of troubleshooting, OS maintenance, overclocking and stress testing and pretty much everything else you'll need to bring XP to it's full potential, Find it here at
http://www.tweakguides.com/XPTC.html

While you are at tweakguides I recommend checking out all the other resources available to you, they have tweaks for a good amount of games, video drivers and alot more.

For those looking to protect their precious investment from the outside world, Nathan Anderson has written a beautiful and simple guide to protecting your box from those who would attempt to harm it. It's a surface scratching guide to security applications, firewalls, and virii. A good read and worth the time, Not very in-depth but easy for the average user to catch on, find it here at
http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=752

While at tweaktown as I recommended for tweakguides, read! Their is limitless information for you at these two sites.

For the more indepth and experienced user, I am going to recommend a view books that can be found at your local bookstore.

Alan Simpson's Windows XP Bible, 2nd Edition
Windows XP Hacks by Preston Gralla
Microsofts WindowsXP Inside Out

I hope this information is helpful to you, and the information I've given you here is just a launchpad, My biggest recommendation to someone looking to tweak XP is to get friendly with google.com, The information is there for you, it is up to you to look for it.

Good luck and happy optimization!
