lost cd key and charicters

i had to restore my computer's hard drive because of many problems and in the process, uninstaled d2 when i went to reinstal it, i realized i threw away the box and lost the cd key
is there anyway to instal without using the key? and also is there any way to restore my charictors?

Your characters will still be on B.net.

But you need a new cd-key.

You could contact Blizzard. They may be able to give you a replacement key.

If its your offline characters your talking about, then your screwed.

Your online characters are stored on battle.net, where they will remain.

And you are required to provide a valid cd key to install Diablo II, you could use a cd key generator, but the chances of it working on Battle.net are very slim.
