simple math is all that is needed to know that D3 will never come.
4.5 million+ people play WoW. that's a damn lot.
assuming every person on WoW pays $50 a month for the game.
that's $6.75 MILLION every month. take away about 1 million for the people who don't pay monthly is still about 5.75 MILLION. plus server costs. which i assume don't eat too much of the profit. i think a cool $5 MILLION is easy enough to say.
plus $50 for the actual game. times 4.5 million. we'll assume they make $10 profit every game sold. that = 45 million. i don't know how game sales work. but i assume aside from production cost about $3 per disc (yeah right it's much less than that.) & companies (walmart, EB, gamestop, ect.) buying at a surplus rate. $10 profit is probably too little, it's actually alot higher.
think that platinum & geatest hits go to home consoles at $20 each. they're still making profits from this or they wouldn't do it. PC games, don't ussually go down in price unless they're doing really really reallly bad.
anyways. blizz is making a hypothectical total of about $5 MILLION per month + estimating around 40 MILLION. and that's cutting them alot of slack. give or take about 1 million.
the verdict = we're still getting screwed on game prices. (DUH) star craft ghost was probably made for fun. not for profits for the most part. star craft ghost was in the making for about 5 years... before WoW even came out. blizz won't even need to make games after WoW. they'll only do them for fun. there's probably tons of holes in my math. i don't care. it all amounts to the same thing. they're getting richer off of monthly fee's than they would ever get selling games.
diablo 3 won't come unless they want to do it for fun. diablo is still on the hardcore fan's PC. they will expect a free online service. we'll only get it, if they want to throw us a bone or start charging a fee.
