Geforce 4 Mx Problems

Hey i have a geforce 4 mx in my cpu(yes i know it sucks balls) and everytime i run diablo in direct 2d mode it locks up after about 5 minutes of playing. my original driver makes it work fine but when i update to the newest driver it locks up. I cant run it in 3dfx mode and direct 3d mode = 10-20 fps while direct 2d = 70fps
Please help!
