yeah... defense really helps when our fightning monsters that do magical dmg....
archers will do dmg to you... a pathetically low amount too... you only need like max hell resists.
str gives 1% dmg increased per point. 5 str=5% enhanced dmg.
a shield isnt useless... shields block...blocking will save you a bit... get 75% block with ss...
ww starts out doing -% ed... which sucks until it gets to lvl 10... i think maxed ww at lvl 20 does 150% ed... that isnt much better. try lvl 10 ww, maxed berserk, maxed bo,possibly maxed natural resists, a few pts into increased speed, 1 into battle command...

the general rule is... max whatever synergy adds the most dmg after the primary skill(berserk) has been maxed. in this case, either skill adds the same%, so either way is fine. however, shout is useful for when you use wirlwind...so it is logical to max it after berserk.
berserk seems that you do not get the iron skin bonus or dex bonus.... that is understandable since your defense will be 0.however, is this after the duration, or during it.... that is what you must test.
here should be your skill order
prereq's for berserk-> a few into iron skin,natural resists, increased speed...-> max berserk-> max shout-> 10 into wirlwind-> max berserk synergies.... the rest... can go into iron skin or natural resists... depending on whether or not iron skin works after berserk.

enough str for gear,.. or maximuim str possible since i think adds a lot to berserk dmg.
enough dex for max block
rest into vita
none into energy.
