he first came to power by waving a list of people who he accused were communists
rising to power, he kept it up by continually accusing many innocent americans of being communist supporters. the courts that determined the cases for these people were pure madness to say the least
people were brought to court and told that if they ratted out their friends for being communists they would go free. however, people did not feel it was right to shift the blame to other innocents and often refused to testify. the courts called this obstruction of justice and sent them to jail. everything a suspect said was skewed so that he had only two choices, wrongly confess to being a communist supporter, or name other people who would be subjected to the same treatment
the sad fact is that antiwar protesters in those times were accused of being procommunism and antiamerican. our own modern times seems to reflect a little bit of that

id take a book with all the sporting results with me from the 1900's to 2000 and become a multi-squillionnaire. (i think this was in back to the future II, but im not sure.)
