It's a cold, brisk Sunday morning. You step out of bed, yawn, stretch, and walk towards your front door. You open it, expecting to see the morning paper at your feet. However, lying on your lawn is a large, mysterious shuttle.
You open the doors and find a note that reads: "You have been selected to test the World's first Time Machine. Pick any time you like, whether it be the future or past, enter it into the machine. It will do the rest."
You scan the letter for any other messages and at the bottom in small, fine print you read "The machine can only be used once, afterwards you must live in the time you've selected."
Now it is up to you. Should I stay or should I go? If anyone here could choose a time to travel to and might I add, a time to stay in, what would you choose and why? Give a good reason for any selection. Remember, you can choose either the future or the past. And you can only choose once. Have fun with this.

A brief answer...But I'd like you to be more specific. Like a certain point in the past. Mentioning a period of time would also be nice. This is to be creative.
For example: If I were to choose the past, it would have to be around the 1960s. I would have loved to experience the music from The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, the early Rolling Stones.
If you do have a materialistic or selfish interest, such as being a genius...explain what you would do to make yourself one.

Ooh, that's a million-dollar question right there. I don't think I would go, honestly. I like things the way they are right now, I don't have any problems.

And don't be afraid to mention staying in the here or now. Right now, the one thing I would love to travel in time to see would be the Space Age. Now it would be a guess, but I'd have to say that in 2000 years from now, we'll probably have a pretty good idea of space travel. Now if I step out and die immediately because of the leftovers of a Nuclear fallout or because the U.S. is some Big Brother State. But I would love to see if we could figure out the concepts of Wormholes, Space-Time travel, and Dark matter and Dark energy. These subjects I find simply fascinating.

I would go back to my Junior year in HS and live it up more than I did. 2003-2004 I think.

Ok, now I feel like I can fall asleep and let this take off. That was a good answer Emoliated. And it gave a specific time and why. That is how this thread should be

Trog, the Space Age is a very promising time, but you've gotta take into consideration we may never reach that age. Kinda sad that we're wasting one of the greatest wonders in the universe, a planet that supports life, an atmosphere, and water. Kinda sickening if you ask me. I guess if I were to be told the world would still thrive in an age of the scientific discoveries that you mentioned before, I would be less reluctant to stay in the now.

Haha I love you man...I take that back, but still nice one. Yah, if I had any enemies to speak of I'd probably throw some candy in the machine, let them run to get it, close the door, and send 'em off to 234242334 AD.

I really would give my balls to meet Jerry Garcia. The sheer impact he had on a select chunk of humanity was so far beyond recognition no scale could ever record it.
Patchwork Quilt
Warren Haynes
I never knew you, but then who really did?
If you were at all like me, you managed to keep yourself hid
A patchwork quilt of a life, memories embroideried on his soul
So please forgive me for putting you in my song
But the spirit she moves me, in fact she pushes me along
It's a patchwork quilt of a life, can't stop the river
Just let it roll
We were at Jones Beach when we got the word
The saddest sound that i've ever heard
The bluest note nobody can play
The ravens sand with us that night on the stage
Tears of sadness, tears of rage
Nobody spoke, we all felt old and in the way
So walk becide me, or above me, I don't know
These days it sure seems i'm lost wherever I go
God how could you, I heard somebody say
What do we do with our lives now, anyway?
Now that our north star can no longer be found
But there's a banjo moon in a tie-died sky
Hippies dance and babies cry
Church bells ring, silver haired angel looks down
And the blood of his music runs through the veins of our guitars
Bright lights
Dark star
I never knew you, but then who really did?
If you were at all like me, you manage to keep yourself hid
Definitely one of my favorite songs ever. My point is, any man who can make such an impact on anyone (and it's not just Warren or any of the Dead members) is someone humanity NEEDS a toutch of. That's why I would go back in any period, it would definitely be the 60s so I could experience such light.

Yes, because money, material things, and corrupt presidents are all life has to offer...

Well slimp. I'm sorry you suggest killing anyone who in no way threatens your livelihood. But not everyone has materialistic ventures in mind. xDBD wants to meet Jerry Garcia. I don't know if you know anything about the Grateful Dead...but that's unfortunate if you don't because then you probably wouldn't be as interested in speaking about assassinating anyone. Just ask yourself: " What would Garcia Do?" And the answer would be to sit back, play some guitar, have a blast, smoke some...well what didn't he smoke?, and be cool.

Jerry smoked pot and had a horrible heroin problem. Heroin ended up killing him.
Drugs are NOT why I want to meet Jerry. He was such a beautiful person, his songwriting reflects it. Listen to a song like Ripple. He was full of love and was a great person to humanity. Had he not died and the Dead got as much mainstream exposure in the 90s as a band like Nirvana or N'Sync.. think about where humanity would be.
I'm just a hippie born way after my prime.
