Who The Hell Is Jehova

SpoonMan999 Wrote:It's funny how so many say that many religious people are close minded and intolerant. Yet reading this thread shows most of the people who would say those things are in fact just like them.

This thread is about the annoying people who come knocking on your door at all hours of the day and bombard you with their religon in the hopes that you'll convert or "see the light" and join up, or at donate money to them at least. This is not a debate about religon itself but rather the methods some religons choose to employ in order to aquire new followers. No one is showing any form of closed-mindedness they are simply expressing their displeasure at being disturbed at thier own homes.

If salesmen and/or religous represenatives knocking on your door and trying to sell you something does not bother you then thats fine. Some, obviously, ARE bothered by this and they are expressing their displeasure about it. Your extrapalating(SP?) or assuming based on them being bothered by this that they are unwilling to sit down on their own terms with someone and debate/talk about religon.

Wanting to sit down and talk about religon vs. having some (group of) stranger(s) come to your door at some random hour and try and "sell" you on their beliefs or push pamphlets at you are two completely different things. I went back and reviewed the posts and I can not find a single one that displays anything other than displeasure at being disturbed randomly at home by religous people.

I know what this thread is about. But, it started with people who were being rediculous to just the people going door to door. Unless their coming at 6 am or midnight or some rediculous hour then why is it so hard to just say, "No thank you." It seems like most of these people are just doing it for kicks.

i don't believe in religion. i don't look down on those people that do. but i don't want them trying to convince me of their beliefs. alot of religious people think i'm a devil worshiper and wouldn't give me the time of day just because i'm not a religious person so why should i give them the common courtesy back? if i wanted to join a religion i'd do it on my own accord not because i get a coupla goofy guys on bikes come to my house and try to shove it in my face thats not how things work. i'll respect you if you'll respect me but with religious fanatics thats rarely the case.

I hate evangelists. If one was to ever come to my door i would first bear my left arm showing the Inverted cross tattooed into it, and then i would set the person on fire. I have noticed on many occasions when religious people talk to me the quickest way to get rid of them is to show them the 'black mark' so to speak.

This is from Wiki.....

Quote:Jehovah's Witnesses are an international Christian denomination[1] whose members believe that their faith is the restoration of first-century Christianity. In areas where they are active, they are commonly known for their door-to-door preaching and their objection to blood transfusions, and for not celebrating birthdays and most holidays. Their most widely-known publications are the religious magazines, The Watchtower and Awake!. Official membership of the organization, counted as those who preach each month, is estimated to be about 6.5 million.[2]
Jehovah's Witnesses reject traditional Christian doctrines such as the Trinity, eternal torment in hell and the immortality of the soul. The central theme of their preaching is God’s Kingdom (that is, God's rule over the Earth) with Jesus Christ as its king. The Witnesses believe this rule began with the Second Coming or presence of Christ. Originally, this was believed to have occurred invisibly in 1874, but this date was later revised to 1914.
Other Witness teachings include the recognition and use of a personal name for God, translated as Jehovah in English, as vital for acceptable worship. They believe that Jesus' death was necessary to atone for the sin brought into the world by the first man, Adam, thus opening the way for the hope of everlasting life for mankind. It is also taught that 144,000 people will receive immortal life in heaven with Jesus Christ as co-rulers over the rest of perfected humankind on a paradise earth. More specifically, Witnesses believe that in the war of Armageddon, which they believe to be imminent, the wicked will be destroyed. The survivors of this event, along with individuals deemed worthy of resurrection, will form a new society and have the possibility of living forever in an earthly paradise.

Well...thats all you had to do, just look it up wiki guys sheesh. I'm MORMON my self and I love my church....and those "MORMONS ON BIKES" are called Missionaries. They spend 2 years of their lives! Out on the field preaching the gospel, so give them a lot of respect. I just might go on my mission...the time is near for me but i'm undecided usually young men go at the age of 19. But I'm a convert to the church, and only 18 years old. The Mormon church is awesome and extremely friendly, so please enough with the misconceptions...thanks.

My roommate is a jehova witness and we NEVER talk about religion, Jehovas and Mormons....have a tendency to stay away from each other lol...but heh.

@ Spoony : It is spelled ridiculous for starters. You are correct about just saying *No Thank you* I have had to do this before, very good point.

@Zerok :Yes I sold girl scout cookies ,and things for my school. I am a natural sales person and have no trouble in that area. I once won a trip to Mexico for high sales in Elizabeth Arden cosmetics. No nobody ever got ugly or abusive to me...I had great success.

dude jehova is the god for black people. it's okay

xDBD Wrote:dude jehova is the god for black people. it's okay

First of all, it is spelled Jehovah. Secondly, it is not black's representation of God, it is the Jewish representation of his name.

The "J" in "Jehovah" is a result of Martin Luther's rendering of the Biblical Hebrew name יְהֹוָה‎ in his German translation of the Masoretic Text first published in 1534.

Due to the fluid position of the letters J and I in English before the 17th century Luther's convention fit with earlier English transcriptions and thus was retained in early English translations. The Encyclopedia Americana states:
The form of J was unknown in any alphabet until the 14th century. Either symbol (J,I) used initially generally had the consonantal sound of Y as in year. Gradually, the two symbols (J,l) were differentiated, the J usually acquiring consonantal force and thus becoming regarded as a consonant, and the I becoming a vowel. It was not until 1630 that the differentiation became general in England.
The editors of the Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon state that יְהֹוָה‎ occurs 6518 times in the Masoretic Text. While יְהוָֹה‎ occurs 6518 times in the Masoretic Text that underlies all editions of the King James Bible, JEHOVAH [in all capitals letters] only occurs 4 times in current editions of the King James Bible: Exodus 6:3 and Psalm 83:18 and Isaiah 12:2 and Isaiah 26:4 (and three more times in place-names). (The King James Bible which is commonly sold in bookstores is an 18th century spelling and punctuation revision of the King James Bible of 1611) Instead of YHWH or Jehovah, the expression "The Lord" (with the word "Lord" in all capital letters) has commonly been used in most English-language Bible translations.
Today the English transcription "Jehovah" is used by many English speaking Protestant Christians and also by Jehovah's Witnesses, however, most modern scholars believe that the English transcription "Jehovah" does not accurately represent God's name in the English language, although there is much scholarly debate on the relevance of "Yehovah", "Y'hovah", "Yehowah", or similar pronunciations.
Some, but not all modern scholars believe that the original pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton may have been lost somewhere in the first millennium, when the Jewish people stopped saying the Name, out of fear of violating the commandment "You shall not take the name of YHWH your God in vain" (Exodus 20:7).

Now you know.

firstly you aren't going to educate me on religion, not the mainstream ones anyway. i pride myself on knowing most all the textbook facts.

secondly i was being a sarcastic redneck. nobody should ever ask what the HELL is [insert god's name here]
it's plain disrespectful and i was doing the same, out of spite.

third it's okay though, because you're good at taking jokes. i can tell.

Well what are the odds of that. I did a search for my name on google and found this thread, and its active again as of today, thats really weird. What it comes down to is that we all have our own way of thinking. they feel that it is there duty to try and help others. they aren't there to solicit money from you or anything like that. In fact you never have to give a dime to them if you choose not to. If you don't like them, there is no point in being an asshole to them, they aren't there to hurt you. Everyone seems to hate them, but no-one can give a good reason beyond the fact that they sometimes get woken up in the morning. In fact Jehovahs Witnesses have done more for our civil rights in this country, and other countries than most people know or appreciate. Here is an interesting fact. On 9/11 when the twin towers fell, the Jehovahs Witnesses where the only religious organization let in near the recovery effort. Or this, when natural disasters occur around the country, the JW's are nearly the first ones in. In fact the military and FEMA have studied the way they operate in distributing supplies and have adopted those strategies as their own. No-one knows as much as they think they do about them and that obviously includes everyone here. All I ask is that you show a little curtesy to them and politely say you're not interested, it's not that hard. Ask them to never come back and they won't, it's as simple as that.
