whats the best antivirus software?

hey guys just wondering your thoughts on whats the best antivirus software, i got nortons anti virus 2006 but it has to much extra shit and is eatn up my memory, any suggestions on other antivirses that are better/same as nortons but require less memory usage???

you don't need to put any virus software on your comp , use online scanners
if you want one on your comp get AVG it's free and it works great

My computer technician claims that Norton is shait... I can't rememeber how he justified it. He said that AVG would be much better than Norton.

Norton does suck, one reason being it is a big memory hog. If it were freeware it wouldn't be too bad, but there's a lot of free and better programs out there, one being AVG. Antrvir and ewido are some other good ones. Online scanners are nice too, the only thing about an actual program is it can be scheduled so you don't forgot/have to run it while you on, and background guards can keep things from even trying to install.

is McAfee any good? cause i use it on all my computers, i have it for free, it has active scanner and everything and it doesnt hog to much mem on my system

It's not too bad, better than Norton. Reguardless of what AV you use though, ever week or so you should scan your comp w/ an online scanner, like one of the following:

Also, don't forget to check Your computer for spyware with a different program, antiviruses aren't very good at that. I would recommend Lavasoft's Ad-Aware.

well i have ad-aware but they havent sent out any updates lately (by that i mean in the past 6+ months.....) so i got spybot S&D and it works pretty good

yea with my ad aware i get updates almost every day
i have ad aware se pro tho if that makes a difference

Lol!. i just got on my computer and theres these god damn transluecent lines runnin across it. like half screen faded the other have fine but theres 4 lines equal space apart run from top-bottom. Is there a Virus-Software i can download for freE?
