Mf discussion
#21
well i remember back in 1.09 i had a cold sorc with im not sure if it was 1000 or 1100 but somewhere between that, with ith mf armor, ith mf phase blade, 4 isted monarch, 7% mf sc's and such... and i found i was finding crazy stuff just within like 20 runs, but iunno if its changed from 1.09 to 1.10, or if its just luck, but i find the higher, the better

The more MF, the better. MF does not reset, it is based on the monster's chance of dropping a unique, and your MF% mods that chance. After your MF% is applied to the drop rate of the monster, it may still come out to be a real low percentage, regardless of how high or low your MF is.

The explanation for that is called LUCK. Somebody with 1000 MF could get nothing but horrible drops run after run, while somebody with less than 100 could find just the opposite several times. MF is a PERCENTAGE; it does not guarantee a unique drop everytime. It all comes down to pure luck.

lol, nub you're right, mf does reset, not only have i read it on websites, but even Trayne, wherever he is now, stated himself that mf resets, and he was the best of the best on computer and diablo knowledge...plus he worked for Blizz...so for those of you who are in disbelief...sorry..you're wrong.

LoL, after reading sp0rk's post i was about to go off and say, "Trayne, the greatest hacker and d2 everything guy on this website and possibly everywhere else, has said many times, MF DOES RESET!!!".

Guys, its like this:

Your stats rollback after a while; str, dex, vit, nrg; it all resets after a certain amount. Blizzard has decided to make mf rollback (reset) to a certain % even though it shows a higher amount. Believe whatever you want to believe, but if you dont think mf resets, then your sadly mistaken. Farv seems to be the only one who knows what im talking about right now. Were right, your wrong. We have sources to back it up, you dont. Give it up, youve lost the battle (I feel like im a dictator or some shit =P)

Hell this is getting me worked up, i might close the thread.

Thank you nub. I mean i dont see how this is so unbelievable. And it's getting me pretty heated too. But hey, let them believe what they want...they'll just say they found awesome stuff mfing with 1000 mf....but when the real number is in the 400-500 range...just a pity...

Why are you two getting heated up??? I asked previously for a source for this information, can you post a link then if you have one? If this is true then I will eat my words and beg for mercy...lol.

EDIT:
I for one WILL give you a link that corroborates what I say. Guess what! Its the arreat summit! Which you people claimed said the opposite:

The truth about mf (arreat summit)

Here is an extract:
Arreat Summit Wrote:Just remember, you can never have enough % Better Chance. Increasing your Magic Find Percentage will always help you.

Is there an ideal % Magic Find Number?

No. The more the better. Previously a bug resulted a penalty for more than a certain percentage, but this has been fixed.

SO...unless you can find something (like the actual code), that proves that mf "resets", your argument has no weight. Just blurting nonsense without anything to back you up is not very helpfull.

Also posted on Arreat summitt is this......

"Magic Find Returns
While there is no cap on Magic Find there is a diminishing return formula (that is not available) that becomes active over 10% Magic Find for Rare, Set, and Unique Items (But Not Regular Violet (Blue) Magic Items). This does not mean that it's useless to get over 10% but it does mean that the benefits drop off as you get higher and higher Magic Find. The most Magic Find is still better than less Magic Find." so hmm....

Mephisto Wrote:ARGH!!! where do you ppl get this stuff about "resetting mf"??? Mf goes up as you equip mf gear!! Its as simple as that!! Yes, it has diminishing returns but the correlation is only positive as you increase your mf percentage. More mf is better. period. The question about "should I put on more mf or not" only arises if you are sacrificing killing speed for mf! But I have heard this stuff about "special mf percentages" before, so I'd greatly apreciate it if someone could tell me where it is exactly they are getting this from.

I think everyone is confusing diminishing mf returns as "resetting." Check the third-to-last table near the bottom of this page. More mf is better, but not a whole lot better after a certain mf range. The benefits of mf decays exponentially as you increase mf. It's kind of like how you get less and less exp as you reach higher character levels. Enter a high mf amount into the mf calculator listed on the page and you won't see much difference in uniq drops, which explains why people think that mf is resetting when it's not.

More mf info on this page.
