#1
hey i just scamed bestbuy and traded in my radeon x700 pro for a radeon x850 pro... if anyone would like to know u can ask... but im wondering, my radeon x700 burnt out because it over heated in my system, im buying a 450 watt power supply and i wana know if i should buy a heatsink fan for my x850 pro, i was told by Tool i believe to get this:

http://www.a-link.ca/itemdetail.asp?itemid=2511

would the fan on my original x850 pro be good enough and not over heat like my previos x700 pro, or should i be safe and go for the heat sink fan?

I got a ATI RADEON 850 platinum, and it have overheated once, so I got a new one... Iv just put in a extra fan and now it have ben working perfektly and the computer is almost never turned of.The computer have now been working perfektly in about 6 months. I recomend you to do the same, as those card is pretty expensive, and mine have overheated once....it was at 130 degrees! heh... now its down at about 30.

PS! a good thing to do is to install the program Asus Probe, as it allows you to se how warm all your computer parts is, and it also warns you when somthing is to warm or soon will be. You can also turn up the cold fans with it, which I find great.

Dude, that fan only went with the 6600GT I told you to get. On Zalman's site it says ATI X*** series, so I don't know for sure if it would fit that.

And remember how you didn't have a PCI-E x16 slot? Well on Newegg they don't have any AGP versions of the X850 so I'm just going to assume that Best Buy doesn't have any either. So you might've just ****ed yourself. =\

well on the corner it says AGP, and it says ATI X*** series so im guessn it will fit a ATI X850 as it fits ATI X***... maybe ill just go to some computer store and ask them, but yeah it is a agp slot

Ok. Then it should all work out fine. Little warning about that fan though. Sometimes, depending on where the VGA RAM is, the ramsinks won't cover the whole RAM chip. Don't worry about it, though, as the fan on it does enough cooling as it is.

I've heard bad things about "kits". Although I think Zalman kits are supposed to be top notch. Don't take my word for it, though. I've just heard that sometimes kits don't work too well.

Vegetable oil cooling FTW!

lol wtf!!

*runs off to buy veggie oil

and 5.25ghz acheived on a p4 with liquid nitrogen cooling haha, i bet thats a fast sumbitch.

anywho i've heard good things about that particular kit. as long as you don't use an ATI gpu then you should be fine because apparently the GPU block won't fit on an ATI chipset vid card.

I've never used an ATI without a fan and I've never had an ATI overheat. Could it be the fan? I'd say get one.

With the RAM going as slow as it was, it would bottleneck and just be pointless at a certain point to use the high of a clock speed. Quite the achievement, none-the-less.

Where have you heard "good tings" from?

customer comments on newegg. said its kinda difficult to understand the instructions but hell i build air ride setups for trucks its just basic plumbing and positioning. and i'm going to have a 7800GT on my rig and its supposed to fit perfectly with that vid card. if I can't get it to work you shouldn't use it. i'll post results in a month or less.

I'd still go with a Zalman over that.

well i dont have enough money right now to get the fan cuz i needed to spend money on my new power supply, if i gave my video card alot of space and kept both sides of my computer off and placed a household fan pointing right in my computer, would that help for it not over heating until i can save up to get the fan?

^^^^Roflmao^^^^

Yeah, my computer was going at 89 on some crap game's due to a possible fan break.

I popped the left side off, bought a 12 dollar fan from WalGreens, and stuck it a few inches away, turned it on low, pointed it at Video Cards and Processor, now my computer is at 67 MAX [Possibly 70] playing Half Life 2.

Yeah, Atreyu.

Slippy, that's still hot as ****. You should really consider getting more cooling than that.
