CPU Heatsink/Fan Dilemma
#1
Hey guys, im runnin an amd athlon xp 2600+ barton here. I replaced the fan from the heatsink with one with LEDs on it, but by mistake i made it blow INWARDS......Sad ....now that im thinking of OC'ing it, should i leave the fan blowing onto the CPU? or should i just unplug the fan altogether and just leave the heatsink itself to cool the CPU?

thx alot

Just reverse the power connection, it will make the fan blow outwards.

Don't just make the heatsink take care of your cooling, when it comes to cooling, More always = better, ESPECIALLY if you're overclocking. I don't like to OC my CPU's personally, it decreases the life of them.

Thats funny cause you would never see the end of a CPU's life from regular home use even if you lived to 100 probably. Those CPU's are truely built to last.

But yes you want your heatsink (HS) fan to be pulling the air away from your CPU. As we all know hot air rises so once that now lukewarm air hits the inside of your case its going to go straight up. Hence why you should also have a blow hole, or a fan in the top pannel of your computer case, to suck all that risen hot air out of the case and expell it into your room.

The best I can recommend beyond a good HS and fan is at least one 80mm fan in the front and one 80mm fan in the back with one of the side pannel directly over your HS fan and one last one in the top pannel as a blow hole centered over the HS fan again.

Its the most minimal fan setup any OC'ed computer setup should have.

yea......i gotta blowhole, plus a *suck*hole in the front, 1 in the back, n 2 on the sides cooling my video card (which has its own heatsink fan)

but how do i reverse the power connection? its using a 3 pin power supply connected to the mobo

IMO...1 input and 1 output is fine...
I suggest place the fan at the back blowing outwards...and trhe one at the front blowing inwards...

are u sure theres 3 pins on ur fan?? maybe u just reverse the polarity on the fan, remeber black wire is ground..

edit: or maybe, if u got 3 pins, 1 is gnd, 1 is + i/p & 1 is - i/p, just reverse the 2 i/p's
