Questions about Wireless
#1
I have DSL and play off a router that supports wireless. I'm not going to use wireless for online play, but my main concern was other people tuning in on our signal and lagging up the game.

I discovered my neighbor across the street has a laptop that he plays online poker with. He said there was about five signals around the block that he can pick up (though he says his connection is spotty and often drops). This happens to coencide with a rash of lag, like Diablo 2 will run fine for a while before all packet information just stops for about 20 seconds before it reestablishes. This can be quite annoying and has killed me on several occasions (i often telerun baal).

I was curious if this is becuase he is trying to connect, would establishing a wireless connection cause a sudden stop to all net activity?

Or is this even me? What has me curious about it is that when I suffer from this lag it seems all other players in the game also suffer as well, so is it blizzard?

Is there a way to disable wireless access either through windows or any other means?

you could always disable the wireless feature on the software or disable the wifi port. sometimes there is a seperate ip depending on if the router came from the company provider, if there is, find it and disable it.

Just find out your gateway ip by double-clicking your network connection in your taskbar and clicking support.

Type the ip for the default gateway into your browser and it should take you to your router configuration. I hope you know the password.

You can set up a WEP key or disable wireless broadcasting completely from there.

Alright. I guess I could have figured it out for myself, but would a wireless reciever establishing a connection cause this?

Or does pretty much everybody suffer from brief instances of lag from battle.net?

No, it should have no effect.
