Fortitude is always a good armor for merc, as well as CoH.
As for your runs, well, its just luck man. Run Pindle as well, he's an easy boss and though he may not drop as many uniques as Meph he has a chance of dropping really good items that Meph cannot. To avoid realm downs I also run andy, which is perfect for your blizz sorc (no 'normal' cold immunes spawn there)
But honestly when it comes to mercs and MF I don't use one. They aren't really useful and considering you can breeze through mephy in less than a minute you probably don't need his assistance at all. Pindle sometimes spawns with cold immunity so I typically just TP out when I see that.
you can get runeword infinity to counteract this, but seriously the cost of good merc armor/weapons + the 50k gold your going to routinely spend to keep him alive just isn't worth it to me if you are only MF'ing.

Lightning is defineately the best, and if your merc as an infinity its takes down everyones resistances Huge. You can run anything you want with an infinity lite sorc: meph, pindle, shenk, eld, andy, dury.... only trav might be tough

I use a din personally, he has ~250 mf at the moment cause I still do alot of rushing, but prolly go more for mfing later; switch my magefists>chancies, pcomb>gheeds, Umshako>ptopshako, and maybe switch shield to mf shield.

Don't forget the Gull/Rhyme (or 2ist baba/6 ist crystal sword/4 ist shield if you're rich) on the switch..
Can a light sorc do keyruns? I know I could kill Summoner and Countess rather easily, I cant recall if Nilithak has lots of light immunes...

Nil sucks for anyone especially if you dont have 'slain monsters rest in peace'. I switch to a lawbringer to do him with my din. as for a lite sorc, my buddy gets run over when he tries. Part of the problem is he loses faster cast rate when he picks up the RIP mod (to prevent CE). but as far as immunes Im not sure

i use a din for all those runs i have like 264 mf and get pretty good drops when i bot. if you don't want to deal with immunities and can afford a hammerdin i say make him. you can do every boss even nihilitak if you have a nat's peace ring

you dont need particually amazing gear fora merc to be effective, Andy helm, reapers toll and something like an arkaines valour or an eth shaftstop.
My blizzard sorc can do andy, countess, meph, pindle, elderitch and shenk. Though i usually dont bother wish shenk dur to the time it takes for my merc to mow through all the cold immunes.
Stick a ral in the andy's helm and a amn in the reapers and your merc shouldnt die.

I love to use my din to mf, i did make a light sorc and got her pretty decent stuff, about 300mf, but wasnt getting crap because id run into something immune to me alot and had to give up tha run.
With my din, 279mf, i dont have to worry about anything being immune, and i dont die as easily.
But as for the armor, try to get infinity(even though its been said plenty of times before)

Doesn't the ring Nature's peace have a monsters RIP mod? You could switch out a raven/soj for that mod...

stay on topic...it was already established that nats peace gives monsters RIP and you need it for nith. therefore repeating it is spam

elederich and pindle have a low drop rate but a very high monster level, they drop alot of the stuff than mephisto can't, for example a few days ago pindle dropped me a 17/15 griffon

i don't know about boting but the best mf you can get is to kill meph in other people's baal runs. no one cares what youre' doin cause it's extra exp for them anyway plus you get better drops.
mf is all relative, high or low you can find good stuff. if your mf is 700 that means you have 7x the chance to find a unique. which sounds good until you realize that your initial chance was 1/1000. so now it's 7/1000. anyway, more is always better unless it slows down your killing speed.

actually, mf(stands for magic find), increases your chances of finding a MAGIC item...not necessarily an unique...and where did this 1/1000 come from? its probably more like 1/10
