for 99% of 1.11 Lord of Destruction builds the recommended stat-point split is as follows:
Dex: enough for gear OR max block with Xxx-endgame shield
energy: base
vitality: everything else. [/B][/SIZE]
This strategy is aimed at maximizing your 'toons Life on the pretty obvious premise that : more life = more hits that can be taken before death.
the only major exceptions to this are Glass Cannon 'Zons (usually max Dex) and serious Energy Shield Sorc's (who need to balance their Mana and Life pools very carefully).
but i need mana to cast spells: you and everyone else. look for items with big +mana (shako, spirit and wizard-spike for example) or +%Max Mana (frost-burns for example). chug mana-pots. putting points into energy is, by and large, a waste of Life. if you run out of mana, your in a bit of trouble, run out of life, your dead.
a few notes:
1: if you are new or starting from scratch, your lack of an equipment pool may require you to spend some points in Energy, all fine and dandy no-ones first character of a Ladder is stat-point perfect, however you should still try and minimize the number of points you put into energy. 99.999% of PvM mana issues can be solved with an Insight (Ral+Tir+Tal+Sol) pole-arm on an Act II Mercenary.
2: some common Strength goals are: 156 for a Monarch Shield eg: Storm-shield and Spirit (if your not a Pally) and a whom-ping 174 for a Crown of Ages.
3: Dex and max-block: with the possible exception of Paladins with high levels of Holy Shield (and better base-shields to work with), never, ever try and get max-block with a Spirit Monarch, the lack of +% blocking on Spirit makes the Dex-investment at higher levels obscene. others have tried and come to the same conclusion.
