How to spend Stat Points....
#1
OK, i for one am tired of answering this in some threads, if a Mod could please sticky this, it might save some aggravation. :p

for 99% of 1.11 Lord of Destruction builds the recommended stat-point split is as follows:

Quote:Str: enough for gear
Dex: enough for gear OR max block with Xxx-endgame shield
energy: base
vitality: everything else.

This strategy is aimed at maximizing your 'toons Life on the pretty obvious premise that : more life = more hits that can be taken before death.

the only major exceptions to this are Glass Cannon 'Zons (usually max Dex) and serious Energy Shield Sorc's (who need to balance their Mana and Life pools very carefully).

but i need mana to cast spells: you and everyone else. look for items with big +mana (shako, spirit and wizard-spike for example) or +%Max Mana (frost-burns for example). chug mana-pots. putting points into energy is, by and large, a waste of Life. if you run out of mana, your in a bit of trouble, run out of life, your dead.

a few notes:
1: if you are new or starting from scratch, your lack of an equipment pool may require you to spend some points in Energy, all fine and dandy no-ones first character of a Ladder is stat-point perfect, however you should still try and minimize the number of points you put into energy. 99.999% of PvM mana issues can be solved with an Insight (Ral+Tir+Tal+Sol) pole-arm on an Act II Mercenary.

2: some common Strength goals are: 156 for a Monarch Shield eg: Storm-shield and Spirit (if your not a Pally) and a whom-ping 174 for a Crown of Ages.

3: Dex and max-block: with the possible exception of Paladins with high levels of Holy Shield (and better base-shields to work with), never, ever try and get max-block with a Spirit Monarch, the lack of +% blocking on Spirit makes the Dex-investment at higher levels obscene. others have tried and come to the same conclusion.

Actually, I disagree with you. There is no certain way of telling someone how to spend their stat points, because it varies so much from build to build, like you mentioned ES sorcs before.

Another obvious one would be a bvb barb. Many of them have ~400 STR with equipment on, because they use Fortitude Sacred Armor for extremely high defence and damage (1 point in STR for a barbarian means 1%ed, so 400 STR = 400%ehanced damage).

Another exception would be a BvC barb. Since casters hit all the time anyway, there is no need to block, therefore, you don't have to spend any points in dexterity, also no shout (defence is not needed since casters hit 100%), no shield required, etc.

Also, most builds can just get away with all base stats, except for vitality, of course. My brother's BvC has base str, dex and ene, but by tweaking his equipment, he can still equip CoABerBer and all the other stuff.

And by the way, mana is an important thing. Ever found yourself in a long team duel and you are suddenly out of mana pots? A very big problem with barbs especially.

I don't want to say that your guide is rubbish, but it's not accurate enough, and I find it unnecessary. It will actually confuse people more.

it all depends on some peoples chars like frater said i agree but not all chars require a lot of vit but it is good to have more life i mean if you like 5k life you can take a few hits but it all depends on the char you are making

loits, while i agree with you, you cannot just blatantly attack him, say something constructive or dont say anything

as for stickying it. i see no real reason, so i am not doing it. if a super decides they want it stickied they can.

i think u should add that u can put no dex at all for most builds as well.
after that i think that this is really obvious, 90% of builds are made this way. When u get into extreme precision killing characters (i.e. bvc) the stats will change, but for a general character its like that.
