Well I have a Gforce 7300 LE and it works great for me wouldnt be that expensive either

Don't go Radeon! And don't get the 7300LE either. It's kinda the 7xxx series budget card. Even a 6600GT outperforms it. And that's what I recommend. It's about less than 200$. It can run most high-end games. Or if you have trouble finding one, you can buy a e-VGA 7600 KO (?). It;s about 200$ CND.

I would go Geforce I have a 5500 Oc, 256mb ddr and it runs fine for 145 dollors.
If you get a radion then make shure you get one that works, Some of them have been on recall for some time now for over heating and bugs.

if your going to seriously put money on it you should check what you can handle first. as for videocards theres some good choices out there..
I use a few types since theres like 17 computers in the house and 8 labtops. (started a small computer business for a short time and people dropped off ones they gave up on here...was easy to rebuild). Only reason Radeon has been on recall cause they tried a new hardware setup for it to do dual style gddr2 with hyperthreading but they failed. Geforce didnt bother cause they knew the risk lol. for dells, i've found radeon series worked better. preferable the X series such as the X1300 and X1600. The newer geforce ones i didnt like except for the 1GB one cause they built it extremely similar to the Radeon X1600 series hardware wise but kept the geforce software. if our a fan of GeForce, i'd suggest the 1GB gddr2 if your computer will handle it but it costs quite a bit......the 6800 GS works pretty good..but its like 250 in total online. the 6200 works just as good if your not temperature sensitive like i am. i get picky about temps so i went with one with a bigger fan tho i replaced it anyways...heh.confused:. oh. the 6800 and the 6200 are both 512MB. Just the 6200 is DDR and the 6800 is GDDR3. if its for a cheaper upgrade the 6200 will do well. it only costs about 83 (with S&H). i
well i recomend 2 x BFG 7800GTX cause thats wat i use and they own the pants off games. and im not too sure on price but when i got mine for like $800 for both
and my last card was a a Gainward 6800 ultra golden sample (thinks thats how u write it). which ran quite well. ![]() ![]()

... You guys have to assume he doesn't have the newest computer set up. I doubt manufacturers put mobos with PCI-Ex16 slots in computers until early-to-mid '05. So assume he has AGP. It would help use if you could tell us which one you have, OP.

As I said, the X1800XL is the best choice, all of you who posted stuff like 6800GS, and etc; those cards won't last. X1800XL will last till DX10

use the crucial system scanner to figure out what video cards you can handle, http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.asp?tabid=GC
07-24-2006, 06:00 AM
Yeah Dyna, considering that the current graphics cards (ATI and nVidia alike) can not process DX10 that's a bad thing to base your purchase off of.

if your computer is older i suggest a ATI sapphire 9600xt 256Mb, but if its newer and you have the money go with either an ATI X1900XTX 512MB or an ATI X1900 Cross Fire Master 512MB

ATI: Good all around card
NVIDIA: Good for games Whoever you talk to will give you different answers, but that is the basic breakdown of the two top ones. ATI is good for video veiwing, editing and the rest. It is good for games, but NVIDIA is better. NVIDIA = the oppisite.

eVGA 7900GT 256MB PCI X16
This is the heavy duty gaming card, has 24 pixelpipelines and its factory overclocked Retails at about $270 at NewEgg ![]() I like to thank Frogman for making my awesome sig!

WM_Hunter, you are wrong. If you didn't know already ATi took the crown this generation with the x1900xtx outperforming the 7900GTX and the 7950GX.

ATI cards:
http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88&pgno=0 nVidia cards: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88&pgno=1 Those are for specs and comparison purposes of ALL ATI and nVidia cards. Personally, I'd say the 7950 takes the cake as the best, but it of course depends on pixel pipelines, too, which they don't show on those pages.

Yeah, think is QUAD sli doesn't work in ALOT of apps. Only ones it works in is Quake4, FEAR, and BF2

... SLI and Crossfire are a waste of money. You don't even get the full benefits of a second card.
i got a 7950 for my cousin. hes not happy with it. and the charts are a bit off. i'd stick with ati since thier pipelines are more stable and less choppy. we gave the 7950 to his sister. and got him an x1800 pro. he thinks it wasted his old 7900gt and runs smoother than the 7950 lol. only diff is about 60 pages, 10fps and the lines are more stable and tend to heat less. the fiber seems more..thick. but i dont think it matters.
7950 pixelpipeline is at 36. x1900 pipeline is 40-48 depending on which series. |
