like you said, a self-made computer is probably the best way to go because you can customize it to your needs. as for companies, the closest you can come to that is alienware imo (you pretty much customize it on their website), especially if you want to use it mainly for gaming. im planning on buying myself an alienware desktop and laptop at some point in the near future. only problem is they are fairly expensivedevilish:

Alienware always has wiring problems that sends your machine into a Blazing Pit of Inferno.
After you buy one, you have to go through the system to see if everything is set up properly. Dells are pretty sturdy except their battery.

Self made is the way to go, you can get the same computer the other companies offer for half the cost.

yeah, I suggest custom made. How could you recommend a dell? they get slower and slower as time goes by, and then eventually break. A good, custom built computer will cost less, and give you ( if you don't have the money to buy a new one in a few years) atleast 4 years of durability. I still have a computer from seven years ago that works fine, tip top shape. And I only upgraded it once.
Go to a local computer shop, choose what you want from their list, or a computer provider. Get some help from them, get it sent to them, then have them put it together for you. costs money for labor, and you pay more for the parts. But if you can't put it together yourself, and you don't have millions to get an alienware (which do not shit out as easily as DELLS) then do that. Dells for laptops are good though I hear. But PCs suck dell-wise.
