Poem: If You Love Someone
#1
If you love someone set them free, don't try to keep them close.
For if you truly love someone, you have to let them go.
They are not your puppets, not bound to you by strings.
They are their own person, with different tunes to which they sing.

And if you hold them tighter, they'll remind you of the sea.
So beautiful to look at, but wild, untamed, forever free.
For we can not bend their wills like the wind can to the grass.
They trust us with their hearts, making promises with their laughs.

If you love someone, set them free, don't try to keep them close.
For if you truly love someone, you have to let them go.
Someday they'll return to you, and thank you for what you've done.
Forever will they love you, if you don't force them to run.

I thought it was good except the last line was out of character because the whole point of the was not to hold them, then in the last line says not to force them away, its kinda abstract in my view. If look at it in a different perspective it makes more sense but its still a change of idea.. otherwise i enjoyed it.

What I meant by that is in the part 'If you love someone, set them free, don't try to keep them close. For if you truly love someone, you have to let them go.' was that you can't keep the one you love bound to you. They need space and if they want it let them go, don't try to make them stay because if you do they'll probably run, leave.

Thanks, and I hope this cleared that part up a bit in your sense, lol.

It made sense to me. I enjoyed it imensely. All I would add to the train of thoughts this peom evoked in me is this.In my opinion true love does not think the other is without flaws,or being blind to them.It is recognizing these flaws...but loving them anyway for who and what they are. Food for thought.

That's an interesting thought, all I was thinking of was the movie Crossroads when I wrote this. Lol, how at the very end she asked her father just to let her go and not make her run like her mother did to get away from it all.

This is very true...it is easy to smother someone with l*love* ..(at least their version of it) to the point that in their minds escape is the only option of freedom to become the individual they wish to be.
