i know there was a thread on this but this is different. basicly i'm seriously gonna make a long-term commitment to work out lifting weights. i wanna bulk up mostly upper body. i was thinking just doing curls like 1000000times per night+pushups. basicly what i'm asking is whats the best way to build up upper body strength.
oh and can't really use any other pills besides vitamins. like maybe what kind of diet etc(my diet has to include no lunch as i don't eat lunch though)

thats what i do.. i do 25, but start at a comfortable weight amound

Bulk up as putting on weight or lifing ? Bulking up would consist of lean meats, alot of protien ( about 1.5 grams per lb) and add a high carb shake.

if ur gonna barbell curl with mass reps and sets, the appropriate weight to lift would be something u can lift like 25-30 times non-stop and still have a bit of energy to continue 5 or 10 more.
When u find the right weight for curls, i suggest u do 4 or 5 sets, first set:8 reps, second: 10 reps, third: 12, fourth: 14, and last just do as many as u can until u really just plain out kill ur biceps
Also, dont forget ur arm is not just made of ur biceps!
You have to workout ur triceps and shoulders, along with ur forearms, just as much as your biceps (if ur biceps are much stronger than your other muscles thats ok, use less weights then)
That should make ur body more tonified and slightly stronger
If you really want to improve on your strength though, ur gonna have to do LESS reps, LESS sets, and MAX weights. Basically u put enough weight that after 2 or 3 sets of 6-8 reps, ur muscles are dead. litterally dead and cannot lift even one more rep.
If you cant get enough protein in ur usual meal, i suggest u look into protein powder (like milkshake powder, but full of proteins)

I didn't think that lifting until you couldn't move your arms was beneficial.

Burning your self out is not beneficial as the lactic acid build up in your muscles has to be processed by your body. When you lift all you are doing is "ripping" your muscles and forcing them to perform. Hellsing293 if you want me to put something decent together( diet, cardio, lifting program) for you I will, just need to know if you are just bulking up without care of getting heavier vs ripped.

oh don't worry about that. i don't need all that. just looking for opinions/suggestions. yeah i was basicly just gonna burn myself out every night before i went to bed or something and add more weight/do more as time went on.

what i meant was that put enough weight so that u cannot do any more reps of that exact weight. Ur arms will be fine =/
plus if u stretch/re-warmup after each set/exercise it 'somehow' greatly reduces the acid build ups, so there isnt too much worry if u do it right

Never lift until you can't hurt your arms, or your body will die at 40. Trust me, my dad used to be a big guy, worked out everyday, he was good. When he hit 42 his right arm gave out, now his left is going out. Don't be stupid and over work yourself, even if it will make you stronger quicker.
take a slow road, and live with good bones till you're atleast 60.

Of course when working out you seek advice on d2sector before consulting anyone else. Who else gives better advice than 15 year old kids who are 5'3 and 60 pounds. confused:
