only problem with hammerdins is that the hammers don't move with you... they should move with you like the druid's hurricane.

thats part of the challenge tho, otherwise ppl would just spam shitloads of hammers and run around... -_- that'd be lame... well in my opinion, but the defense of your shield w/defiance/holy shield depends on your shields base def... if it's an upgraded eth HoZ it should have like 675 def (i think, if it's a 200% one, been a while since i've seen one) your holy shield + defiance would give you approx. 4.2k defense... but thats only lvl 20 each, so +skills items (essential for a hammerdin anyways) will boost it shitloads...

So i take it that herald shield is the best shield for a hammerdin? just makin sure cuz some guy told me they suck, i didnt believe him....but was wonderin why they might....

And it's not even the shield thats all that important. Hoz because it adds a few more thousand dmg. But the main aspects of a successful hammerdin are great fcr, fhr, and mana recovery. With that, it'll be hard for you to lose.

a shield is everything for a hammerdin. I'm not a big advocate of a shield, but in this case everyone is right. just gon't get in halls, hammers suck in confined space

I think you go too far by saying it is everything, the Hoz isn't everything. The point of the hammerdin is to kill the opponent before they can hit him. You would need a certain kind of shield if you were to go punch for punch with another char. They don't have great defense and need to rely on killing their opponents rather than going punch for punch.

yeah, but when a shield has 75% block, that's as good as 75% more life in many situations and since you don't need a 2 handed weapon, I would say that it is of the upmost importance afterall, no armor will single handedly stop 75% of attacks on hell

With casters, I realized max life is better. Now of course I equip them with good shields, but casters don't need to block like melee duelers. They need to survive, and with max life that can happen. I'm not saying that a hammerdin shouldn't use a Hoz, because if you can you should. But if you can't get one or whatever the case, by no means is it the end of the world for a hammerdin or any caster. The main thing is your life and your attack dmg.

I just have to ask...as a pally newby myself here... i have concentration maxed along with hammer, vigor and blessed aim... (yes...its pure right now as far as i can tell less i screwed up somewhere)
but how do you determine damage on it.. i always here people talk about doing xxxxxk damage mine goes to like 6k-7k range with concentration.... or is there some other way that you figure the hammer damage that im missing (this is figuring on approximately lvl 27 to each of the above) (now with these maxed, ill get 1 point into redemption and then start putting some into charge for confined areas that hammer dont help in) but anyway... someone help me with how to get the hammer damage up..or what i need to do to get it way up there like others claim to have. thanks
