Well heres how it should really be broken down, as far as graphics go PC with a good vid card tops consoles while the new consoles top most stock pc's on the market. If you really want to decide what is better look at the games, but you have to choose for yourself because each has its own set of games. It all depends on what you like. Personally, i own a sony vaio desktop pc, a PS2, N64 and sega dreamcast, and soon to own an Xbox. I love games, so i love anything that supports games, i loved NES, but when a flood took all 40 or so of my games and my NES from me i never bothered getting another one. Honestly, pc does have better graphics and better features for most games, but with the Xbox2 and PS3 coming soon, all this may change dramaticaly. Plus, if you are a true gamer, it doesnt matter what system is better, you just go buy all the systems you can and all the games you can and jam day and night. End of story.

carpetshagger, thanks for making anti-console points from years ago. The gamecube is not a kiddie system just the least supported of the 3 and no online outside of PSO is pretty bad. The xbox standard controller has been changed to the S controler wich outside of a pretty silly D-pad is totally great they havent made a large controller in over a year. Its also the most powerful of the 3 has slightly the best graphics. The internet is worth paying for since EVERYGAME thats playable on LIVE has voice chat, friends list, and ladder features and even the not on live games sometimes have downloadable content through the service, which goes on the built in hard drive.

I perfer console gaming since you only have to drop $200-300 one time instead of everytime a new game that uses the latest graphics card, and since there is no patching games dont ship until they are nearly perfect and not rushed out and basically unplayable until the patches start coming. But i like PC gaming just fine.

All in all I would have to vote for PC in the end even thought I am a hardcore console fan since '91. And although it would be nice to see a console which is upgradable like a PC and has games that are like PC games with downloadable content and such, I think the whole appeal of the console is the plug in and play ability of them, no upgrades, no installations, just turn it on pop in a game and play. That to me is where the appeal of consoles is.

i know that PC is harder work and if you can't be bothered to set up a pc, your gonna go for a console. if you can make that extra effort then its worth it playing games on pc

I totally agree, and for the most part PC is better, but for the average gamer, (unlike myself, I am a hardcore gamer) it is easier just to opt for the console just because it is easier to play and requires no upgrade every year or so. The only time you upgrade is when the next system comes along, which is usually about 3-4 years, as far as the "generations" of machines go.

Games these days are just being based on graphics, instead of gameplay, sound, etc. The developers want to make a pretty game for people to look at instead of making a game that looks like crap, but makes gamers want to play over and over. An example of this is MGS2. Konami wanted this to be the most realistic game ever, shooting hydrants, breaking steam pipes to burn enemies, hanging off of rails, enemies forming up attack teams when they see you, windows breaking, etc. But MGS2 has almost no replay value, when you could play MGS and get the bandana, stealth, and tuxedo, and kill in style. They make it extremely hard to get anything, with the whole finding dogtags crap. But enough of that.

well, i was just playin MGS and i have earned the bandana, and it makes the game better (even though i was usin a PSX emu to play it) it is a quality game in a age where most games are either too flashy graphics-wise but crap when it comes to gameplay or clones/sequels/expansions that aren't as good or ruin the original *cough, cough the sims*

Very rarely do you find a PC game made well enough to run perfectly all the time, no matter what the spec of your machine. Consoles are designed for this so they're better at it, however the games on consoles are usually aimed at younger people, and the control pads ALWAYS suck a$$.

the ps2 pad is ok for games like thps3 but they totally suck for FPS's

Ok carpetshagger, learn your shit before you say I know nothing. PC can own on graphics whenever someone has the money to put into it, such as an Alienware with a 42" flatscreen plasma monitor with a kick a** video card and sound card. Throw in a full BOSE surround sound system and you have the ultimate gaming platform, and anyone who argues that deserves a stupid smack. Nintende doesn't just make games for little kids, you may want to play resident evil and tell me if a 7 year old is the target audience for that game. All in all, you seem to be the clueless one here, like a child in a college class. So sit down, shut up, and take a lesson from people who know their shit.

computers beat consoles massively because of the sheer options and power. but consoles win in the power for money area. But if u have a pentium4 ee hypertheading with a radeon 9800xt a 7:1 gigaworks sound card and a 120 gb hdd and 16x52x24x52 burner drive. you will surely win against an xbox. o and dont for get to add a 5000$ flat lcd 30 inch screen. lol total cost of computer with 550 watts of power and all the other cold cathode fans comes to 13000$ much higher then a 200$xbox

Of course PC is always going to be better, but of course at a higher cost in money. I noticed at an earlier post that somebody was comparing controllers. You can buy an extension to your computer that can hook up the newgen controllers. Top that with an awesome computer and the best emulators you can find, then you are looking at all 3 newgen consoles in one pc infront of you. The only downside is how internet play would work using emulators.

For anyone who thinks graphics are better on a console than pc, then think again. All video/computer games are made on a computer along with all firmware and drivers that the hardware of a console needs. This means, the hardware and games can only be as good as the computer they are made on. Somebody could create hardware that is better than any computer hardware at the moment and put it in a console, but that hardware wouldn't be anygood until the computer caught up.

As far as graphics go for anything. I think we are reaching the peak of graphics. Years from now (could be sooner or later) graphics will be fully realistic and actors will be replaced by programs that look like them. Also the graphics would look so real that you would feel like you were watching a movie. By that time, there should be virtual head sets that would allow you to look through the eyes of the character and feel like you were there. There's not much more to go with hardware as far as graphics, unless somebody figures out what 4D looks like if there is such a thing. All this rant means that graphics on a console and pc will be exactly the same someday, but of course the pc will always be ahead. Who knows, consoles could go out of style and we all could be hooked up like in the Matrix. Time will tell.
