Requesting Help

[Reaper of Death]

Hey this is Reaper here.. I decided to get back into D2 to play with a friend.. I just recently installed it again, and everytime I try to play it, I get an error.. even before the opening screen.. I'm sorry if there is a post like this, but I couldn't find any information on it. Heres the error:

Diablo Critical Error

Error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct3D.

Now I have tried the hardware test, and it says my computer CAN run Diablo II no problem.

This is the original, not the expansion. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try running you're Diablo II with 2D graphics and see if it works.

I've tried it in 2D graphics and it doesn't work.. I haven't tried reinstalling DirectX though. Right now I am reinstalling D2 to see if it works, oh and my graphics card is not the problem.

EDIT: I think I've found the problem, I reinstalled the game, and the first time I ever try to play it, an error pops up saying an error occurred reading part of Act IV. After noticing this I checked out the install disc to find two fairly large and deep scratches on the disc, I'm going to have it buffed and reinstalled once more.

EDIT AGAIN: It fixed it. I buffed my disc, reinstalled it, and now the game works perfectly. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. Psh.. better graphic card... Good one...
